Workers ws enginers in WAW scenario

Hi all
In WAW scenario for ATG I used bouth workers battalion and Engineers. And I dont see any point in recruiting enginners when workers may do same job and are cheeper. Exept combat diference is ther any other? Can someby explain that?

The main reason for engineers is they are good to put in a besieged city so they can repair and help fight to defend the city. where worker battalions just die like flies

And what hapened with EP if they are under attack? I belive it is reduced significaly. Workers gather EP faster. Is this thrue?

they gather EP at the same rate I think and combat dosnt reduce EP unless some get killed which will reduce the ep.
