PBEM v AI

Post by billd »

Hi guys,

I'm keen to play my first PBEM game soon. I was wondering a couple of things about PBEM v AI games. Firstly, what features are available in PBEM games that aren't in AI games (Action Cards)?? Secondly, do you find yourself playing in a similar way against human opponents or do you play differently? And thirdly, is playing by email self explanatory or is it like changing your race in a random game :)

Any info would be great!

Cheers

Action Cards depend on scenario, they don't exist in unmodified random games, no matter it is AI or PBEM.
Fundamental difference I noticed is possibility to make alliances. Allies can give each other techs, hexes and units.
Second difference is that you may be "forced" to play with strange or new (for you) rules like shroud.

Human opponents are smarter and much more clever than the AI. You also have to learn patience and forbearance with your human allies/opponents. Turns can take 2-5 days before it gets back to you. People can be fickle. Clear communication goes along way. Win or lose, be a good sport.

If you think you are good against the ai and beating it all the time, then it's time to play against a human opponent. Of course you have regular, good and excellent players but in the end a human player is less predictable then AI. So always more fun :)
