A question about exported images

Post by lentulus »

I see a lot of very nice map images from TOAW users on various sites. Is the ability to export detailed, cropped image a feature of the product?

There's a screen capture feature built in TOAW; for my scrennshots and editing I use a program called Photoscape; it's free and workds fine for AAR and my Tutorial slides *see blog*.

Thanks! Both a great feature, and an incredibly quick and well presented response. I think this one will be a "must buy"

It's easier than Photoshop and got great features, too!

I can't seem to get the "create map" feature to work when I've opened an "END_OF_TURN..." file. It works fine on normal hotseat games. [&:]

I also have hit this same problem. I tried saving the map image for .sal of a PBEM game I'm playing; I did not get the message box prompting for the save name/directory. I tried again with a pbl of an old turn -- same lack of message box. I did a visual check, and ran search for recent .jpegs -- no sign of these. But for a .sal from against the PO, this works fine.

I wonder if it's related to the 'goodbye' that happens after you save a turn of a PBEM -- even if the turn is not over, TOAW goes away. Just a guess. I too wish it worked with EOTs.

As Ogar said, it's part of the 'Goodbye' message and the anti-cheat feature; my guess as well.

Perhaps a pat on the head before the 'goodbye'. Give you a chance to take a picture? If the turn is not written to the disk yet I don't see how you could cheat.

Just checked it out myself... ain't taking a bloody picture at all at a PBEM. Where is it normally stored? Root folder or Saved?

@Panama
It sort of looks like it might be working; you click on the option, but no message box appears. If you're still playing the pbl/sal-from-pbem, then you can continue. There is no jpeg created.

@Oberst
I usually find the map jpegs in the 'main' scenario directory/folder smooshed in with the sitreps, the accursed-auto-sals, etc.

I am having the same issue and it is very annoying. You can't do it at any time during the turn. It seems the feature is disabled in the PBEM game.

capturing a screen shot - how???

Post by patton1950 »

Oberst-

You said that there is a screen capture feature built in, but I can't seem to make the "create map image" buttons work...

I know that there is photo-editing software available, but first I need to get a screen shot captured; how do I do that?

I am starting a game of Brian Topp's Battle for Moscow (v 1.93), and would like to do a series of AAR's about the progress, but I need to be able to capture screen shots to make it meaningful.

Any help will be appreciated; I tried to find it on Gefechtsstand, but did not see anything about how to capture the screen shot to get started.

Try hitting 'print screen' on the keyboard, then open the program and 'paste' it in.
