national moral of guard unit

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

national moral of guard unit

Post by stone10 »

If I assigned a Guard infantry division to a guard/shock Army, would this unit get 10 or 10+5 bonus to its national moral?

Similarly, in the future 1.05 patch, if I assign a guard motorized unit to a guard/shock Army, how much national moral bonus would that unit have?

Shock army shouldn't provide bonus for the Guards and Guards army provide bonus for the guards only.

Right now it goes on the top of the specialization bonuses, i.e. motorized, cavalry, airborne, mountain.

Pavel, my feeble mind needs examples and demonstrations in order to retain complex data [:)]

Is the following correct:

Guards rifle attached to Army= +10
Rifle attached to Guards Army = +10
Guards rifle attached to Guards Army =+20
Rifle attached to Shock Army = +5
Guards Rifle attached to Shock Army =+10

John von Neumann wrote an interesting comparison of biological intelligence with computing in 1956. In it, he pointed out that computers need extremely accurate math because otherwise small errors rapidly inflate over the large number of steps in computer algorithms to dominate the outcome. On the other hand, biological intelligence works well despite large errors because it uses lots and lots of data in parallel and then pulls it together in no more than three or four steps. And, yes, we see hyper-acuity in biological systems and noise inflation in computer algorithms.

Why do I make this point? The combat engine in the game introduces multiplicative noise at practically every step and has many steps. It is surprising then that the outcome is mostly noise? This is the sort of thing that makes the game engine opaque in a bad way. Treat most of the steps that are currently multiplicative as additive, and the game engine will make sense rather than nonsense. Then it will be tweak-able. It isn't now.

"For a number to make sense in the game, someone has to calibrate it and program code. There are too many significant numbers that behave non-linearly to expect that. It's just a game. Enjoy it." herwin@btinternet.com

Wait until Pavel blesses it. So far I am just guessing.

In 1.04 it works like that:

Non-guards unit attached to Shock gets +5 bonus
Ex.
Rifle Division attached to shock +5 bonus
Guards Rifle division attacked to Shock Army +10 bonus (just guards bonus)

Guards units attached to Guards Army gets +5 bonus
Ex.
Rifle Division attached to Guards army no bonus
Guards Rifle division attacked to Shock Army +15 bonus (guards bonus +5 GA bonus)

After recent changes it works (1.05) like that:

Shock army will provide +5 bonus for the non guards units which didn't get speciality bonus (rifle units), guards armies provide +5 bonus for the guards units which didn't get speciality bonus.

I can go in more details, but there are thoughts to drop Army HQ morale bonus and substitute it with supply/replacement bonuses.

Im assuming you mean guards army here?
