Query on the AE map, out of curiosity

Post by Shark7 »

OK, before anyone gets overly excited, I'm asking more out of curiosity than anything else.

Is it possible to 'change the map' in the middle of a game? That is if one were motivated enough to make a map to show for new rail-lines etc that were built during the war and edited the map accordingly (both visual and PWHex) would it work?

Again I'm curious if it can be done, not actually doing it. [;)]

Well, you can swap in new map art at anytime. Just replace the current set of map panel BMP files. PWHex...I don't know.

I have use the editor to add a point to bring the Monsun boats in from at the bottom left corner of the map, so it does work. I've just never tried to change things mid game.

Well, you certainly can change the pwhex file mid-game - you'll get a little popup box pointing out that you've done so. See the Launcher utility for a sample implementation of it - activating the Ledo Road, Burma RR, ALCAN etc based on date both in the map file and art.

I think I recall reading somewhere that there are Issues with MP games unless some guidelines are followed; probably in the documentation for that utility, actually.
