Preview > Advanced Epic War

Post by nicodede62 »

Hello,

Here is a preview of my progress warhammer 40000 mod. This is still a beta and I can not share because I received a non-official patch from Vic.
But I wish you presenting the progress of the mod and key changes.

This is my first map and the first battle for Warhammer 40.000, Space Marines against Chaos:

Image

You start each in a corner of the map, each camps have the same starting units (depending on the different camps).
You start with a Main HQ, only one is available by race. All other buildings must be built by engineers.

Image >The hives allows the supply of your armies, they are mainly imperial but are involved in the war effort or put into slavery by the ennemy.

Image > The point of requisition standard, it helps to recruit new units and some research.. Only the engineer can build on it.

Image > It is a relic, it allows the construction of special units. Only the engineer can build on it.

Image > The slag deposit can build energy generators on it and some research.. They are useful for the construction of armored units.Only the engineer can build on it.

My goal:

Recreating the atmosphere of the board game with the specifics of the game Dawn of War. Keeping good on the characteristics of the game board.
All units have been created thanks to the codex of each race, the units may be upgraded thanks to their xp and have the right to a bonus specific according to unit.

For now, only two races are finished. I wish I could add the orks and Eldars before the release of the mod.
In the long term, the imperial guard and tau will be added.
Of maps for the 1vs1, 2vs2, 3vs3 with alliances or free for all.

And voila, I'll post other screenshots below in the second post.
Sorry for my English more than pathetic .

Awesome [&o]
And I really do mean that. I enjoyed the first Space Marine tremendously, unadulterated fun blowing up Orks... [:D] The Tau aren't my cup of tea... too sophisticated LOL.
Are you going to add citylandscapes/ruines as well?

Thank you Josh.

The ruins are good ideas, thank you. I'll see if I can incorporate that [:)].

For cities. They are already integrated in the form of hives. they provide supplies to the armies.
For the construction of units, you must construct the building concerned.

Example here:

I know only the computer version (Dark Crusade). There were no cities and no supply. I understand that you are doing battles on a bigger scale?

Hello Madlok,

It is on this version that I play with a specific mod.
For the supply, I know there are none in Warhammer 40K, but it makes the game even more realist.

Care should be taken to its lines of supply, otherwise you will rejoin the Emperor [:D].
I understand that you are doing battles on a bigger scale?

Yes.
I tested with small units, but the game is slow, boring, and it takes many of turn for this to be fun. I abandoned that idea.
I chose a slightly larger scale than Warhammer 40000, a mix between Dawn of War and Epic 40000.

This looks great. I dont know if you know this, but there are a couple of Boardgames that could fit very nicely into making scenarios for this mod.

Battle of Armageddon and i dont remember the name of the other, maybe Horus Heresey.

I started making a mod of one of these scenarios, but only got as far as collecting background material. But if you want i can supply it for you.

Screenshot shows part of the map for one of the boardgames.

Hello Grymme,

I asked myself this question at the beginning. Make a open map or make scenarios ?
The problem with the scenarios, you have to touch events. Unfortunately, this is not my case.

I would be happy to do a scenario about the war of Armageddon or the treachery of Horus as here:

http://littlemetaldog.files.wordpress.c ... /horus.jpg
But as I said above, I don't really know to use the event editor [:(].

You can send me your scenario ? I would like to see your work [:)].

Advantage by race:

Space Marine:
- And they shall know no fear > morale at 100%
- Better supply carry

Chaos:
- Fearless > Morale at 100%
- Better supply carry

Ork:
- Furious charge > All units have at least two attacks.
- Supply cost and Xp needed for upgrades are divided by two compared to other races.

I still have the buildings ork to do and I start the Eldar.
See you soon [;)].

Just realized that i forgot to answer in this topic.

Basicly i never got around to do anything other than mess around a little with different counters etc. So the only thing i have got that could be of any interest are that i downloaded the rules for three of the boardgames. Armageddon, Chaos attacks and Warmaster. I also downloaded som counters etc. They used to be pretty difficult to find, but maybe its easier now. Anyway if any of you want the rules, counters etc you can just email me.

As for the scenario vs masterfile what to do first. I totally agree that its best to do the masterfile first. But after that i think its always good to develop a scenario for the masterfile to show of its qualities. Anyway. I think that there is a public beta now so it would be really cool to see your work.

I see what you mean.
Not that I don't want to make a scénario, but at first I thought making open maps with the aim to take all the cities and the enemy HQ.
As I do not know use the event editor, this seems a good compromise.

In a second step, I would focus on large-scale scenarios. I would first finish all the races and see if the mod is running perfectly.
I would not want to upload a mod that is not balanced either at the level of resources, the fight and the number of units available.

By cons, for all those interested. I can easily upload a space marine battle against chaos.
Knowing that the work is not finished and a test phase with a friend expected to start.

Edit: I forgot to mention that once finished the masterfile. Those knowing how to handle the scenario editor can easily do any sort of scenario [;)].

Nicodede62: I hear you when it comes to wanting a scenario to be balanced when uploaded. But i do think its very difficult for one person to do that. The true test of any scenario or for that matter computer game comes when it meets the public and 10/100/1000s of people try it out.

Btw. On a whim i threw together a basic map for an Armageddon scenario (Orks invading the Imperium). It looks godawful ugly. But with some finetuning and custom graphics it could be cool. Uploaded it to my website. Feel free to use if you want.

As i said, it looks horribly uggly. But that can be easily fixed.

Yes, I know but this is my "picky" side [:)].
I would remove the mod as clean as possible from the start. I finished the Orks, I test with a friend and I would put an download with a map or two for interested persons to give me feedback on their games.
As i said, it looks horribly uggly. But that can be easily fixed.

Nice work, but I see it on a larger scale [;)].
Once finished the Imperial Guard, I would start to put forces in place.
I work currently on this map in parallel but the main work is still the mod. I make this card when I'm bored to click everywhere in the editor [:D].

Hello everyone,

The mod will be set aside for a while. I'm waiting for news of my friend that helping me to complete the mod.
At last news, the imperial guards would be about to disembark because the campaign of Armageddon will start soon.

See you soon [:)].

Edit: I work while waiting for news of my friend on a random games, based on another futuristic strategy game.

Hi everyone,

I return to the news, I returned to work on the mod, that will take a new turn.

- The mod will be available to play in "random game".
- Different types of worlds will be offered in "random game" (normal, desert, ice, jungle and chaotic).
- Each race will start the game with his hero specific, long term, if I can change the event in question, I would try to include random hero at startup.
- Modification of the battle, each unit may a land attack (A key), or an unit can fire on an adjacent hex (B key), This is like in the board game, start a melee to take the field, or weaken the target firing at him [:)].
- Each unit will comply with (as far as possible) the army books for each race. With an explanation of the unit and its capabilities.

A exemple :
The finest, most experienced Brothers don the Company's cherished Terminator armour to spread the Emperor's will. These suits provide unparallelled protection and combat capability to the heroes who wear them.
- Role: Super-heavy infantry equipped to establish and maintain the front lines of any deployment.

----- SPECIAL RULES -----
- Personal teleporter ( fast infantry )

----- WARGEAR -----
- Terminator armour ( hit point bonus )
- Power fist ( strenght x2, attack in last during defense, kill% bonus )
- Storm bolter ( artillery attack )

- There will be more buildings, they slow down the game tremendously. So instead, I set up a system to recruit troops through certain checkpoints. The engineers will used to build roads and fortifications, and repair the fortifications and spawn points. (No auto recovery points)

Image
The HQ can recruit all the troops (HQ, Elites, Troops, Transport, Heavy support), the spawn points can recruit some troops (Troops, Transport, Heavy support).

And voila, that's about all. Currently, I finished the Space Marines, the Chaos should be quick, and a beta will be offered next week, or at the latest in two weeks.
Come on, get to work nico .

Hello,

We start testing, we are currently conducting an AAR in French (Sorry not to offer it in English, but it would be too complicated for me because I'm bad in English)
