Japanese opponent

Post by castor troy »

Hi

after taking my last campaign (stock) against Rainer79 into mid 45 I have been absent to both the forum and the game for 4 months and decided to come back to have another shot at a PBEM campaign while not becoming really active on the forum anymore as the way the AE forum has gone was rather disappointing (to me) when thinking about all the years on the WITP forum. Some of my pet peeves were whiped out due to patches during the PBEM while some weren´t, therefore I am reluctant to touch stock another time. As DaBigBabes seem to have been the mod that took care about most of the things I thought would not be working well (or well enough) I would like to start a long term PBEM using that mod under the latest beta patch. As we´ve been using the beta patches during the last PBEM too without much of a problem I would also like to have ongoing updates of this PBEM if a new patch is available and there aren´t reported problem.

As mentioned above, I´m again looking for a Japanese opponent as I´m still not willing to try Transport Tycoon in the Pacific while I´ve been playing most of my WITP games as the Japanese.

I would also like to introduce these options and houserules that have worked out quite well IMO:

Realism options:

FOW ON
advanced Weather OFF
Allied damage control ON
PDU ON
historical first turn OFF
Dec 7 surprise ON
reliable USN torps OFF
realistic R&D OFF
no unit withdrawels OFF
reinforcements VARIABLE +/- 60 days

Game options:

combat reports ON
auto sub ops OFF
TF move radius ON
plane move radius ON
facilities expand OFF
auto upgrade ships and airgroups OFF
air and ground replacements OFF
turn cycle 1 TURN

House rules:

no new Allied TFs on turn 1
only one Japanese port strike
cease fire in China until 1 Feb 42
no Allied strategic bombing of occupied Allied territory at any time, Allied strategic bombing only allowed on Japanese held territory of 12/7/41
no Allied 4E bombers on naval attack below 10.000ft from 6/42 on. Valid for Army 4Es, not valid for Allied NAVY heavy bombers at any time
as realistic R&D is turned OFF, no overabuse of this function. Means not producing any aircraft earlier than 4 months of their normal arrival as it would be quite off to see Shidens or whatever super advanced ac a year earlier (or even earlier) and it has been proved already that R&D can go totally off in that respect

Depending on your time zone I can do several turns a day, Rainer79 and me were able to play into mid 45 within one and a halve years real time. May well do an AAR again.

cheers
Chris

If I may, what is the specific motivation for the Advanced Weather OFF setting?

Because "Advanced Weather" ON means continous monsoons everywhere. "Advanced Weather" is a euphamism for "Lets go play in endless thunderstorms..."

yup, what mike says...

my first game with advanced weather off but I´ve heard often enough so far that advanced weather OFF actually gives you a better weather "model" than ON [:D]

to add to my original post, as I´ve been playing WITP for 7 years now, I would like to play a quite well experienced Japanese player.

I am looking forward to reading a new AAR.

I still think that playing the IJN is a lot less time-consuming than the mid or late-war allies. The first turn is a beast but otherwise the economy is not that bad.

thx. I try to limit my time to actually playing the game and doing an AAR without too much ranting, as I´ve just got tired about it. Yeah, lots of things have changed thankfully, that´s why I came back to try another run.

late war Allies was a mess, guess I´ve spent more time clicking around for pilot training than anything else. I´m still too lazy to jump onto the IJN side at this stage, playing the Allied again will just be more comfortable I guess as I could learn a lot in our game. [:D]

But when looking at this thread then I guess I won´t find an opponent anyway. The last 7 years it took me perhaps a couple of hours up to a day to have an opponent, now I´m already waiting for 2 days without anyone wanting to challenge me. My rep must be quite nice by now... [:D]

You would have had an opponent were it not for this remark
to add to my original post, as I´ve been playing WITP for 7 years now, I would like to play a quite well experienced Japanese player.

That kinda disqualified me....

I got an opponent and 3 candidates in less than 15 minutes, and I had about as long a list of house rules as you do. Lol. [:D]

seems like my absence will be forever then. no opponent, no PBEM. 7 years may well be enough [8D]

Yo Castor,

Are you are talking about version A of Babes Lite? The one with the fixes to AAA/DP but does not need the extended map?

Hi Mike

oh, I didn´t know there is an extended map [X(] Don´t know what I´ve all missed in the last months but I was thinking about the version that had changes to sub attacks, ASW, flak, slowing down of all logistics and surely many other things too to enhance stock. That would be version A then?

cheers

Hey bud,

It sounds like they are doing touch-ups on the pwhexe file for the extended maps of AB. I want to check out that game when they have the map and data file working as it introduces stacking limits for ground warfare. If I can be so bold, check out the discussions by JWE regarding limited stacking and Ext Map SL Data in the Scenario Design & Modding section.

I think I'll wait a few weeks until JWE/AB feel comfortable and then find a play-mate to start an extended map game. A second factor for me is timing. I'm just winding down from two major projects at work that have kept me in fits time-wise. I'm officially off the support end of the first project at the end of this month and should have the second project completed by mid October.

I'd love to roll dice with you but you might not want to wait for the extended version?

stacking limits sound great. It pretty much depends on when that version is out though, if it takes some more months, hmm. Would say we are game if there isn´t someone else taking up the challenge soon. Mid Oct certainly would be ok for me.
