Looks like the soviet guy missed something in turns 59 and 60.

I had some nice ones in my first AAR, but I can't be arsed to look them up. Three big ones at least (each about 40-50 units). I am sure Cpt Flam would spank me now though [:)]

Dear Lord! I had a hot-flush looking at this pocket. [&o][&o]

Shouldn't we alert all of the German players that whine that its impossible to create pockets?

Pelton, very impressive!

Not to belittle your achievement, but the high content of infantry in the encircling force suggests that your Soviet opponent was not really paying attention. Your pincers must have been working their way forward for several turns?

I thought the same thing. He must have seen it developing over a couple turns, and stayed put. Maybe because Moscow was in there. In particular, take a look at the eastern flank protected by 17th Army; see how the Russians are neatly lined-up in a row? Do you think they were lined-up that way behind the lines, or that Pelton secured that line the previous turn? (I think the latter). And if he secured that line the previous turn, what was his opponent doing NOT pulling out of the very obvious bulge to the SW of that line?

Pelton did a great job taking advantage of that, but he had some help from the Soviet side.

On the other hand, most of the pockets of the real war, if not all of them, needed some help from the other side. [;)]

You would have to ask him.

The truth is the German player can only take what the Russian player gives then, thats just how it works.

A good German player takes every little thing the Russian player gives them some times the Russian player gives you a big gift and you take it.

From the color of Army in the pic and small map, I can see that you've put everything in this sector except 1 army(4th?) in north and 1-2 army(6th?) in south. Apparently, your russian opponent give you everything you need.

I would not go be colors at time I was kinda nuts and didn't organize anything. Attack first ask question later. Only thing I kept together was panzers.

I have 3 out of 4 divisions out of sully in most infantry corps.

I have lost 1.5 million men pocket against Human German that is almoust 3 Soviet Fronts worth of troops.

At time I was pretty sure that its game over but I kept playing and I was able to recover from it. It did cost me quite a lot of territory and multiple important cities. My opponent advanced almoust Urals in South.

Only thing that saved me was that my opponent made mistake of trying to attack all sides from same time after the destruction of this massive pocket near Rostov. My opponent split his forces one part advancing east toward Stalingrad and urals, one part toward Baku and one part toward Novorossisk.

If he would have pushed toward east with all troops and then north I would have been doomed becouse I simply had no troops to stop him.

In Noborossisk and near Grozy I was able to force German advance only by frontal assault becouse of bad terrain and flanks of my line covered by mountain made impossible to pocket my troops there. It saved me and gave me time to build force to hold my opponent North of Stalingrad.

+1. I noticed the same thing… the large proportion of infantry units present in the double envelopment….hmmm. Encirclement via infantry divisions is certainly possible within the game. However a pocket of this size involving so many infantry units within the pincers requires a large amount of time to develop This means an extremely sedentary opponent; Or an opponent completely unfamilar with wargaming and the history of warfare.

Unfortunately by actually starting this thread and posting the rather silly image above, IMHO, he actually only succeeds in detracting from his overall credibility in terms of his observations concerning the game system as a whole. One would have hoped that someone that is this opinionated about the games mechanics has been actually been learning critical game lessons from a higher grade of opponent.
