Soviet HQs Unready

Post by 56ajax »

Have a substantial number of Sov Army Hqs that are unready (u) with their TOE at 19/20%. Is there any trick in getting them up to strength?

Thanks

Most support squads being built go to combat and support units, and HQ's have to be happy scraping the bottom of the barrel. I'd love to hear ideas on this, since the shortages in support imply substantial losses as time passes due to damaged ground elements being written off.

Never seen that before. What year are you in? Seems like in 1941 there is a bunch of support squads being injected in the production system as a result of the Soviet auto disbandment of Corps HQs. I also havent seen this issue with either of the games where I have gotten into late 1942 and early 1943 as the Reds.

You might check your "Commander's Report" than look under the "Functions" heading for your HQs. Check the Max ToE setting to make sure they are set at 100%. Or just go the individual HQs and check their ToE settings on the unit display -- right side of the game screen -- make sure you didnt inadvertently lower the max ToE settings.

The other problem might be you are builing too many support units -- artillery -- engineers -- RR construction units -- etc. These all require

Playing GC41 latest beta. Seen it quite often actually.

Up to T30 and the Coastal Army still has a TOE of 19/20. have played games where the leningrad front has had similar. As the Russian you are short of everything in 41, but at least with Support you have lots in the transit pool.

But does it make any difference to the Combat value of the attached units, as i thought the HQ support was passed down the line?????

If it does then where is the delete key.

I have yet to notice a difference, BUT... Sometimes I see 3 Sov SU's each contributing a Combat value of zero even though they full strength etc. failed roll? Low actual HQ TOE?

I have pretty much given up on German SU control.

Once and I while I check for a laugh which obscure unit is looking in awe at the Karl Siege Mortar assigned to it deep in the woods 100km from a rail line. I picture Cargo Cult worshippers in Feldgrau.

I think that the Support Squads are getting sucked into the mass of new Soviet units that arrive as reinforcements in the first couple dozen turns. Hopefully, as armament points become a bottleneck, the "on demand" system of production will end up shunting more manpower into Support Squads, instead of the more armament intensive items.

This will sort itself out when your corps HQs autodisband. If you resort to manual disbands of these and other superfluous HQs (and airbases, for that matter) you'll never notice a shortage of support elements. There's tons of fat in the Red Army, just a question of managing it.

Also, there's a lot of frozen MDs and HQs in the rear you can adjust TOE settings on to further free up support elements. Urals MD, etc, set all that stuff to 50% on turn 1.

Thanks for that everyone. Note that I am up to Turn 31 and have about 10-15 HQs with TOE at 20%. Corps auto bisbanded like 20 turns ago, I still have like 4 Corps left (Airbrigades), get rid of them but they will not have much in them. I have disbanded those airbases that needed 1000 trucks and 6000 tons of fuel and ammo etc even when empty (bug) and armaments points have been max'd out for like the last 10 turns.

Only ground elements active in the pool is Cav and AA guns.

Disband the airborne HQs.

You may simply have too many army HQs floating around. The Soviet gets far more of these than he needs. (Or indeed can be managed by his Fronts.) I myself start disbanding the excess by 1942, and sometimes earlier.

I agree taht I wish there were more combat units then HQ`s in the `41 GC for the Soviets.

I agree, I wish there were more combat units then HQ`s in the `41 GC for the Soviets. Micro managing them and keeping their unts near is a PITA in the Great Retreat.

Could you elaborate on the good parts as well as problems in disbanding the Army HQ`s, and playing with less please ?

I have started disbanding more unwanted HQs; note that setting eg Urals to 51% TOE does not appear to drive down support but those lost through natural attrition are not replaced. At least when you disband the Support goes into the Active Pool. (Can you imagine the utter disaster if they went via Transit)

At the moment nearly every HQ and front that was not in existence on T1 seems to be stuck at around 20%

RE: Soviet HQs Unready - Place on refit

Post by 56ajax »

My problem was that new HQs were entering the game with a status of unready and i should have placed them on Refit via CR.
