Area targetting

Specifically looking at the boot camp scenario but in general looking if I can.
Is it possible to lift my area targeting off the ground. I would like to suppress the sniper in the tower but my infantry usually have their face in the mud and when I go to target the tower it says my line of sight is blocked.

No. Area targeting always locks onto the ground. I don't know if area fire affects units in a tower if you area fire the ground under the units there as the area fires shows a box. But it's worth a try.
