Light Carriers for sale! CHEAP!

Post by Warspite3 »

My ship design project manager has decided to come up with a new design which main purpose was to support the main fleet on it's assault on the Naxxilian Republic homeword. The idea was to build a relatively cheap carrier vessel on a cruiser hull and keep it at size 300 or under. Mixing and matching parts, he came up with a design which had very little to no armor and/or shields, only enough engine power to get it moving, decent fuel storage, very limited combat weapons and a host of standard fighter bays. The result was a Shinku Class Light Carrier. An audiance of over 3000 was present at the starport for the birth and launching of the first Shinku Class which was named Hokshiu. She was a beauty, sparkling with lights from bow to stern, lots of exterior windows, fighter bays on her port and starboard sides, nicely setup bridge and comfortable hab areas. She looked so ready, many admirals, captains, pilots, and various crew members adored her beauty. They could not believe something of this quality could be built at such low cost. Quickly after the launching of the first Shinku, three more followed, the Jurio, Vonkia, and Halmori. They were assigned to the 1st Fleet immediately after launch. Now, these would turn the tide and give us the extra punch to defeat the Naxxilian's once and for all, or at least we had hoped.

The 1st Fleet set course to the Naxxilian homeworld for a full fledged assault. Once they had warped in, the excitement had built up, we would finally see the destruction of the Naxxilians. Then, to our surprise, our ships, one by one were being destroyed. The Shinku carriers were blowing up one after another in a million pieces after just getting hit twice! The reality has finally sank in, this design was a total flop, flawed and useless, a tin can of a carrier, cheaply built and unable to withstand hits from even the lightest weapons. Their weak engine output was a complete embarrassment, as there were times when the captains of these vessels would report they have lost engines and were barely moving, we had to respond by saying..."Sir, the vessel is working as designed". We have been called every ugly name in the book by these captains who had such high hopes on these poorly designed vessels. One captain's last words were..."For goodness sake! Would somebody get this piece of trash moving, we catching hell here!!! Get us out of range and launch these damn fighters now!! Ahhhhh!!! {BOOM}" It got so bad at one point, a captain had returned to the spaceport in an escape capsule after his Shinku carrier had been blown up by a light hit from an enemy frigate. This captain was very furious and demanded to speak with the designer of this vessel immediately. Needless to say, his threats towards the project manager of the Shinku vessels got him locked away in a prison cell. The high councel has zero tolerance for captains and their crew shouting negative remarks regarding the Shinku vessels. We have heard some really bad remarks, so bad in fact that we are not even able to post the actual remarks on this forum do to guidelines. [:'(] An example of what a crew member was over heard saying..."$hit ku carrier". Once again, the high councel will NOT tolerate this kind of stuff nor will they tolerate threats towards the project manager.

So this all said, it now makes since that we are having a big sale. Yep that's right so if anyone interested I have some Shinku Class Light Carriers for sale in the bargin bin. The marketing director wants these cleared out his storage bays asap and he is leaving it up to me to help get them off his hands. Sounds just like the kind of brillliant "bang for the buck" idea that makes it through the legislative defense budgeting lobbying and logrolling process. After all, the fighters and bombers will destroy the enemy before they can approach the carriers.

Yet another way this game provides immersiion!

PS. You forgot to mention the designers received further contracts to study the reasons for the "flimsy carrier" disaster and propose new designs.[;)]

Yep, I wish you could trade warships in diplomacy, along with requesting refuel rights, mining rights, and trade sanctions against enemies.

If I EVER see any of these slower than Quanemo molasses carriers in the Briar Patch Nebula.....

its ALL OVER

I don't think crossing the Neutral Zone would be a good idea either. Igard might take offense to
something traveling that slow!

And finally, I'll have to ask Tjhkkr, but I believe the minimum cruise limit in Coruscant space
is at least 10kps! [:-]
Shields are useless in "The Briar Patch"...

I'll take ten. Just show where they are parked and our crew takes it from there.
I have certain... problematic wannabe admirals that need to earn their right to command our state-of-the-art ZAMCS-Nexus MK2 capital ships and ZASGSV-Hyperion General Systems Vehicles.

I personnally use some brillant ships like this (very slow, but heavily armed) as mobile defense orbital batteries on new worlds to protect them while they are building real orbital defensive station. They are fast enough to go to target's orbit and stay there forever ^^

Ho, eventually i had some energy collector too ^^

Brakes are for cowards !!

You shouldn't sell them, gift them to your enemy maybe they got the same fun like you ! :-))

But only from good mistakes you learn something, i hope the MK II will be a better design then before.

Funny!

So, the essence of a carrier is just a fighter bay? I actually haven't tried to build a carrier yet. Does one just research higher-tech fighters, or is there a carrier tech to research too?

Yep, Carrier or Fighers are my favoured weapon type.
Carrier got a ship size bonus i think 50% more then the regular ships. But 40% need to be Fighter bays.

Default orders are Evade/evade to stay out of the biggest trouble, Carrier shouldnt have much other weapons anyway.
Just a few point defences and i put at my 600 size carrier 2 fast railguns + 2 ioncannons.
But they still need good defence, strong shields or much armor + Repair bots.

The best thing on fighters are, they get auto. updated when you reseach better ones, you basicly dont need to replace the carriers that much like other Ships.
Thats made the fighter bays a good defence for any Mining station. Until the Pirates use hightech ships, 1 fighter bays can handle any Pirate except Legendary pirate fleets.

So there's no Carrier tech that has to be researched, then? Just fighters? (Sorry if it's an obvious question, but I don't have the game in front of me.)

Yes you have to research some fighter type on the mouseover it then says carriers are activated.

I think I will pass on your NOBLE sale offer.
I have my own designs the enemy can kick the SNOT out of...

And finally, I'll have to ask Tjhkkr, but I believe the minimum cruise limit in Coruscant space

ehsumrell1, if all he wants to do is give old Palpatine and his henchmen some target practice, there is NO LIMIT to the number he can bring in... [:D]

Maybe you should change the 'Flee when' parameter from shields at 20% to 'Flee when' you have completed launching fighters... or did you even get a chance to launch fighters?

I too wanted this and I'm wondering why it's not in the game. It seems like a no-brainer and I really love the idea of providing assistance to smaller empires in order to make them thornier problems for my enemy's.

Erik.....could you shed some light on this???

Ok great our galactic marketing division will be processing those orders right away, just in time for Christmas. [:D] We still have a good amount here just laying up in storage, brand new never used, so spread the word. Only requirement is all buyers of these vessels have to agree to sign a notarized document freeing my empire of any obligations. For example, we are not responsible for damage, loss of crew life, or any other malfunctions of these vessels. They are being sold as is where is with no guarantees and all sales are final. For example, there is a known problem that the proton thruster on these vessels have to work extremely hard to get the ship moving since it is only one engine. That was done to keep the costs down. As a result, there have been many overheating issues just during the short life of the first 4 Shinku's, although the council of ship design of my empire is aware of the problem they provide absolutely no support for it nor do they provide support for any other questions or problems regarding these vessels. Also be advised many corners have been cut to keep the costs of these vessels down which is why we are able to offer them at such low costs. For example, single core cpu's are used for the bridge computers, portable toilets are used, no shower facilities, only cold food can be served in the limited cafeteria, no air or heat system within the vessels, many of the lighted windows are for looks and not offices or rec facilities at all and in fact most are just bland storage areas, and much more limitations which we choose to not discuss here. If the new captains of these vessels decide to foolishly charge the enemy, even if it is against one small lightly armed frigate, we are not responsible for the destruction of your Shinku vessel nor the loss of crew or even high ranked officers. [X(] Our recommended use... jump only to the center of a system and move absolutely no closer to the enemy then necessary to get your fighter/bomber wings off as soon as possible and just pray as best you can. Remember, there is always hope [:'(] Good luck with these vessels and the high council appreciates your business in the galaxy [:D]
