Reinforcement & Experience

Time of Fury spans the whole war in Europe and gives players the opportunity to control all types of units, ground, air and naval. Not only that, each player will be able to pick a single country or selection of countries and fight his way against either the AI or in multiplayer in hotseat or Play by E-Mail. This innovative multiplayer feature will give player the chance to fight bigger scenarios against many opponents, giving the game a strategic angle that has no equal in the market. The game uses Slitherine’s revolutionary PBEM++ server system.

Reinforcement & Experience

Post by Cad908 »

I did not really understand the effect of reinforcement on experience. So if I was uncertain, I figure others are also.

For air units, each increase in strength yields a reduction in experience. That was in the manual, I believe, and pretty straight forward.

For land units I was somewhat confused. I found nothing in the manual, so I ran some tests. As below, each 1% of reinforcement yields a 1% decline in experience. I do not know the developers intent, but this seems to be how the system works. Now we know. [:)]

After thinking about this a little, I have a problem with how this seems to work.

Consider the following cases:

Air unit with a strength of 8 and experience of 6, reinforced to strength 10, 25% increase in strength and experience falls 33%, from 6 to 4.
Land unit with strength of 3.2 and experience of 6 (example above) reinforced to strength 3.4, 6% increase in strength and experience falls 83%, from 6 to 1.

Air unit with strength of 6 and experience of 35, reinforced to strength 10, 67% increase in strength and experience falls 11%, from 35 to 31.
Land unit with strength of 6 and experience of 35, reinforced to strength 10, 67% increase in strength and experience falls 100%, from 35 to 0.

I do not know how relevant this is to the model, as I cannot find any mention of what experience does to combat values, ect. Just food for thought/discussion.

I just reinforce everyone and let them learn as they go along [:)]

I was doing the same thing.[8D] My finance training rears its ugly head, and I start to wonder about the tradeoffs. Given that we still do not know the role of experience in the equations, so this may be irrelevelant. I have lots of air groups which have been heavily engaged with 30 plus experience, and my land units that have been fighting are all around ZERO. Just seems odd.

Anyway, for land units one of the attributes for its effectiveness is experience. So there is a direct correlation, but for air units, it has not been defined, yet.

Usually, by default, the trade-off is 1 XP for 1% of reinforced strength point.

Doom,

Thanks. Couple of questions:

1. For air units, what are the effects of experience? I could guess, but if I had a 0 experience and a 50 experience, I assume the 50 would be "better", but in what ways? More likely to intercept, ect? I found nothing in the manual.

2. Is this modded or is it hard coded?

Consider this case, as it is most extreme with land units. I have a German Infantry Corp (though it could be French, Russian or any other) and it is deployed against Poland. It conducts a number of attacks/defenses and gains 10 points of experience. I doing this, its effectiveness is increased 10%. Assuming it took 10% losses, by reinforcing it I lose all its experience, which means the 90% of the unit that remains now has now experience. Now I have a second German Infantry Corp which I just created. When deployed, its experience is 0, which is the same as the Corps which took part in the Polish campaign. This does not seem reasonable, at least to me.

If I could mod this, I would probably consider:

For each 1% of strength, 1% of the units experience is lost. For the German Infantry Corps as above, it gains 10% in strength, and its experience falls from 10 to 9. This balances the "raw" recruits that would go to either the battle tested or raw formation.
