russian supply-again

Post by zoot »

I am sorry for harping on this, but I just do not understand some resuuply aspects of this game, perhaps someone can enlightened me. examples;
A sovit unit encircled by german units in Grozny, it is a 4. Turn two it turns into a 7. Turn 3 reduced to 4, next turn increases to 8, reduced to 4, next turn up to five, next turn reduced to 4, next turn gives up.
A unit is surrounded in a spit of land in the ocean, it sits on a resource spot and has a free space behind it which I can't get to, for five turns in a row it is reduced to 1 point and rebuilds each turn to 5 points. The nereast friendly rr is over 25 hexes away.

click on the unit to determine its supply source. If it is 'alternative supply,' it is getting supply from either ships in the adjacent sea zone or tac bombers nearby.

Supply by air? That worked so well for the 6th Army [:)]

I can see maintaining some form of base supply so the unit does not die, but to fly in enough supplies to allow the unit to regenerate it's strenght is really too much. See the thread for an even more bizzare example of this.

once again you write from ignorance, Numdydar. Supply from air in this game is quite limited.

As for the 'bizarre example,' the German unit is level 4 armor, it gains a 25% bonus for being dug-in for so long, and it is getting minimal supply from the city. One can quibble over the level of supply that the city should offer, without connection to the hinterland, and that is easily moddable across the board for all cities if one wants it to be less. It is not getting air supply at all, in this case.

Greyshaft could besiege the city, he could wear down that armor turn by turn with repeated tac bomber assaults - at some point that would exceed the capability of the city to resupply the armor.

Wow. Nice response. Glad to see we are all adults here.

If a unit is cutoff, it 'should' eventually die without the opposing player doing anything as eventually everyone will be tired of eating shoe leather. Think Battan as an example. The 6th Army was in a Russian city, had limited air supply, and eventually surrendered. It sure did not regenerate it's strength after being cut off.

While the Russians were attacking the 6th Army after cutting them off, they really did not have too. That was a decision by Stalin. As the player, you should be able to surrond them and just let them sit there to die/surrender. Every game I have ever played has had some mechnicism to account for lack of effectiveness due to being cut off.

I will grant you that being in a city could slow the process down, but units should never ever get any stronger withiout a landline to a supply source. The absolute best they could do would be maitain their current strength.

So if I attacked a 10-3 in a city, with air supply, and cutoff, if I reduced it to a 7-3, it should stay a 7-3. If air supply continued and I never attacked it again, it should STAY a 7-3 at a minimum. Certainly not regenerate back to a 10-3 in a wekk or two no less. That is the issue imho.

I really don't understand supply in this game, I have seen isolated units and encircled unit go from 1 point to 5 in one turn. I have seen isolated unit near a railhead drop in points. A unit at the Baku resource point, is isolated for 8 months nearest unit is up by Stailengrad and it goes from 1 point to 5 several time, 5 to be exact and then upgrades when the sovite army does. I have seen isolated units upgrade as well. Sorry but I thinks the supply system needs some serious reworking.

Ok second time for this reply. This is the only game that I have played where isolated and encircled units can rebuild from 1 point to their max in one turn. I have seen isolated units in cities and resource points, up grade while the neast RR or friendly unit is several hunder miles away. One unit in Baku was isolated, ( its impossible to encircle it), was isolated for 1 year, reduced 5 times to one point , next turn back to 5, then upgraded to 7 when the Sovite army did.
Is that strange or what.

Zoot,

the developer posted a new campaign game in the Design and Mod forum.  It only allows reinforcement if supply is above 25.  I have not tried it yet, but should answer your concerns.

"Restricted Supply Grand Campaign Mod" is the name of the thread.

And he still needs to surround the city to siege it.
