Korsun Pocket question
I'm thinking of buying Korsun Pocket but when I look at the screenshots I have trouble seeing the details on unit icons and other information. Is this only for screenshots or is this the way the game will appear if I buy it? Thanks

No, you can see the info good enough keeping in mind the limited area available, but the required info at a glance is gleaned. When a unit is selected though there is a plethora of info onscreen. It has been a while since I played KP but I think the engine has advanced since that time but they might have updated some of the features retrospectively. I could be wrong though.

Also, iirc, KP also includes the massive and earlier scenario of their updated Ardeness Offensive which was a complete game prior to KP.
I just looked at the screens. They are way more clean than how they appear. Some said the counters were a bit busy as the different formations use unique symbols, but it was the first game I remember where you could tell which formation a unit belonged to at a glance.

OK, thanks for your feedback. Also, if you or the others here don't already know about them, www.shrapnelgames.com puts out 2 freeware games that are very good:
winSPMBT and winSPWW2 (based on the old Steel Panthers series)
Also good is TacOps4 at battlefront.com ($25)
Thanks again

Be careful because KP is an old game, you may have trouble with resolution if you use a wide screen. Some have experienced distortion or black borders because their screen can' t support low resolution (as 1024x768). Some players think units are too small.
You should try the Battle in Normandy Demo and you'll see if it's good for you.

I have a suspicion the original poster is not genuine.
Instead, he found a sneaky way to promote Shrapnel Games.
He could have asked another question about Korsun Pocket but he didn't.

I kind of thought that, too, after I realized he had 2 posts and one was promoting some kind of sale or something.

Thanks again- also, I don't work for Shrapnel or Battlefront nor do I have some sort of weird agenda. Believe it or not I thought I would be doing someone a favor by mentioning games I liked. Never again.
RE: Korsun Pocket question
Yeah I own KP and it's expansion and BiI but never play them due to the screen res restrictions as they look blurred. I can't even chneg my grpahic card settings so it foesn't stretch the pic either for some reason.
RE: Korsun Pocket question
I have BiN and BiI and I haven't had any resolution issues on several different screens. Or maybe I'm just not smart enough to notice.

On my monitor 19inch widescreen any res other than the max is blurred..a pain in the backside. The max is 1440x900.

Paulo,
Don't take it personally. Occasionally folks jump to conclusions.
As far as Korsun Pocket, it was an early game in that series. I didn't have trouble "reading" the information on the counters, but found myself relying on the unit info on the side panels quite a bit. A later game in the series is Battle in Italy. If you can swing it, it has several nice features.
You can read more and see more screenshots on SSG's (the developers) site: http://www.ssg.com.au/?page=scenarios
I haven't played TacOps in a while but I recall enjoying it.
Also, Matrix has several free releases available as well, including SPAW (Steel Panthers World at Wart). They have several others as well, though I have to admit, I had trouble finding them on the website.
Thanks
rick

I would say that BII and BIN are your best bang for the buck. SSG appears to have given up the ghost, just check out the SSG forum. No official posting from them in a long long time. A pity, I had high hopes for Kharkov and ATD, with tons of scenarios and theatres.
I am still holding out that SSG will eventually reorganize and come back someday.

I think they should come back too, despite the sad loss of Ian Trout. I loved their old games. Only thing was I had to re-read the manual every time after not playing for a while. A bit more complex than ToF.

It's probably very unlikely sabre1 as one of the founders of SSG, Roger Keating, unfortunately passed away from cancer in August of this year - a real loss of one of the greats of the computer gaming develoment community.
RE: Korsun Pocket question
nicwb,
I think you are thinking of Ian Trout (the other half of SSG) that passed away this past summer.
