creating campaign scenarios

Post by dontra85 »

any chance that someone can develop a scenario in which the german origanl battle plan for the invasion of russia is an option. that is a scenario in which neither operation retribution or greece occured which would release those divisions for its orginal mission in russial. this would also move up the invasion start time.

a second scenario or an option would be for Stalin to have listned to his generals and moved all of the divisions to the stalin line or behind it leaving only the border security forces in place.

and since we are playing the war with hindsight what about incorporating an option, based upon the progress of the german army, of outifitting the german army with winter clothing at a loss of supplies for the units. this should only be based upon the germans not meeting a certain line. i cant imagine them not doing it but it is possible. the decison not to provide the clothes was based on a beleif that the progress of the war was sufficient and rapid enough to not need them since the war would be over soon.

Some comments on each scenario proposal:

First, the game is hard wired to have 22 Jun 1941 as a surprise turn. While it is possible to have a game start before then, it won't have a suprise turn and when 22 Jun 41 rolls around, the Russians will be under suprise effects, so right now, earlier scenarios are very hard to do with that particular issue. There are some scenarios that feature changes for the Germans for at start. I did one that had an attack out of Rumania that was changed by Hitler because he thought it would be too hard to attack across the river line in the south.

I also happen to have a Russian scenario that features a lot of units not frozen for the Russians based on Stalin's dithering in the initial days of the invasion. Advantage Russians.

Finally, I don't think you can get around the game mechanic of the Germans suffering from the winter. It is something hard coded into the game, so it is not something a scenario designer would be able to get around.

How come they didn't allow a bunch of mods in this game?

They do, just that some things are hard coded at the moment.

I find the editor to this game and the ease of using it one of the best for any game I have ever played in terms of flexibility of what you want to do with the units, commanders, etc. Hats off for what is typically a side show feature if a game even has that feature in the first place.
