Naval Detection

Post by Cad908 »

Doom,

I have seen this come up from time to time. Playing as Great Britain (allies) versus AI.

Open game, and you have not detected any naval groups. (top screen)
Close game to main menu
Reopen game, and you see an Italian naval force at sea (bottom screen)

I did nothing but close the game and reopen immediately.

I assume this is a bug, as it lends itself to player exploit, as you can reopen the game multiple times until you see where the enemies naval groups are, then can plot your counter moves.

Thanks

This is WAD.

Visibility of enemy vessels in a sea zone is calculated every time, new ships enters the sea zone. And actually, when the game is loaded all ships in the area are entering the sea zone they are actually in.

We do believe that players are not prefer to have fun instead of exploit the game engine limitations.

OK. Just noticed it and thought it might be an issue.

As to "naval detection", I noticed a couple of times where I did a recon of a sea area where enemy fleets were, and after the recon they disappeared.

(I was testing CV airstrikes and was wondering if doing a "recon" mission before the airstrike improved its performance.)

This leads to a question:

Does an air unit (CV, TAC or STR) improve its performance against an enemy fleet by doing a recon against the same sea area first?

Thanks

The answer is yes, if they are not spotted.
Recon is not always accurate. The Vessels in the sea zone are an estimate,
An additional recon usually makes it more accurate, but not always.
Any reconnoiter can cause you to loose sight of the fleet as the ocean is very large.

Indeed, you must be aware that the recon can bring you inaccurate information about the type and number of enemy vessels in the area
