Noob (kind of) Question

Post by BigBog »

Took the plunge and received the Trilogy for Christmas---awesome game, really has filled the gaps between Bowl Games and in-laws....
One Q: I am in about my 3rd or 4th very small fame (4x4 and 6X6)--learning the ropes by experimenting with things...lots of fun. However, in current game designed a Destroyer that I equipped with Nuclear Devastator weapons and pt. defense-wanting to use it to pulverize an annoying neighbors colony prior to invasion. He had about 20 troops there, so I was trying to soften it up before invasion.

The Nuc. Devestator is supposed to have 5M damage during bombardment. What does that mean, because I had Fleet of 6 of these DD's--they bombarded, but no damage to troops, infrastructure, population, etc...???? What exactly does Nuc. devestator do then?

Any help in building a bombardment capability would be appreciated. Happy New Year!!

They most likely did "engage on target" as you klicked attack. That means securing a planet. If you want to bombard it, you must make a right click and choose it in the list. The 5M damage then means the population. Troops wil lget hurt too... but not enough to justify the mass murder. Well if you are evil you can wipe out a nasty race of rats that way to colonize it pure breed human.

With the fleet selected, push Control Right-Click on the target planet and select 'Bombard'. It isn't a standard order so you can't just right-click to access it because it is so damaging to your reputation and to the quality of the planet.

Yes, CNTRL-Right-clickedon the planet and the DD's did engage and bombard but no noticeable effect/damage. Population and troops for the planet remained unchanged, although they did fluctuate and then MAX out several times. So, not sure if there is something I am missing, like Nuc. Devestator does not really work well for planetary bombardment.

Thanks for the replies--

Did you check to see if the planet in question had planetary shields?

Not asking to be a jerk - I once spent 15 minutes bombarding a planet in confusion before I noticed the shields. :)

Any suggestions on how to take down shields--? Can I send Spy in to sabotage them?
