Dividing a Unit

Post by John 3rd »

How does one divide a unit? I want my Assault Brigades to break down into two or three smaller components. Michael and I have been discussing this and this was his thought:

When I pulled up "Location 2337" I compared it with 3171 (52nd Div) to see what was different. In the bottom right hand corner of the far right column of the editor, there is a box with "Unit Type." The 52nd Div has "02 > regiment" while your Assault Brigade has "01<brigade." I think you need to have the "regiment selected to allow an LCU to divide. The only other difference was that the Assault unit has a delay of 9999, but I don't think this was the issue.

I opened the game and divided the 52nd Div. It shows up with ID 8000, 8001, and 8002. These three do not show up in the Editor. So I think the code generates the A, B, and C when an LCU is divided.

Taking an 'educated guess' here, any LCU you want to be able to divide into /A, /B, and /C needs the "02>regiment" selected.

Is he correct or is there a different answer?

THANKS!

Not quite. The only units that can divide are Type 07 - Infantry Unit and Type 08 - Armored Unit divisions that expressly have "Division" as a selected suffix type (Suffix 71 for Inf, Suffix 81 for Arm). Divisions that have "division" in the title, but Suffix = none, cannot divide. If Type = 07, or 08, AND Suffix = 71 or 81, the unit can divide no matter what the Unit Type (01 - <brigade, 02 - >regiment, or even 03 - non INF).

The Unit Type "used" to be for designating appropriate leader ranks, but these days every Random leader ends up being a Col anyway. Unit Type doesn't seem to do much any more. [8D]
