New blood

Post by ArticFire »

Greetings,

I tripped across this game about a week or so ago and have been playing it daily since. After playing now for a week I think I have a decent handle on things.

Thus I am hopeing to find my first PBEM game against someone. I am most familiar with early german/french/brit equipment so 1940's should be a good time frame.

This is however my first time so I would prefer if someone else would set it up and of cource have no great expectations of a great performence on my part :)

I think using this forum to pass the files would be dandy. Whomever takes of the torch of pounding me in the ground please bear with me if I throw a few dumb questions yoru way :)

I am using v7.1 if that makes any difference.

Alright I have spent the night honing my meger skills against the AI since I have yet to recive a challenger :) After perusing the forums a touch I have solidified how a few things work I was a little unsure of (like amo dumps, air power :D ).

So now all I need is to cut my teeth on an oponent thats not so easily manipulated as the AI :D

Welcome! :D

Can't oblige right now, I've got enough games going as it is. Pretty sure someone will take you up on it before too long...

Thanks for the reply. Been following some of your battles looking foward to fighting ya sometime. I am beginning to wounder if my desire to play an "early" game is detering people. It is just thats the equipment that I am most familiar with due to playing WWIIOL.

ArticFire, I like early war games. I'll take you on in 1940 as the Germans. What country do you want? What month, as I believe in 1940 the equipment changes quite a bit from January to December? How big of a battle (I suggest not too big, maybe 2500 pts on a big map).
10% arty
meeting engagement
no mines unless planted by engineers
no airdrops first turn
CC off

I'd be happy to answer your questions on a turn by turn basis if you would like that. Or point out errors in tactics that I think you are making as I see them.

I'll set it up if you like. I assume you have all PBEM slots free?

See? ;)

Anyway, early years is fun to play as long as you don't overdo it on the AA guns. If it's any deterrant to people, it's probably because there's not enough toys in the OOB :D

Oh vundafa. Sounds just dandy bob and I am not sure which month , within the first 6 moths I am thinking you pick which one.

I am thinking I would like to be gernany for my first game as I have played with them mostly in my campaigns.

The setup sounds fine , already got two questions for ya, first how do I keep airdrops from happening the first turn? Secondly is the 10% arty figured in or is that just basicly a handshake kinda thing so I should only spend 250 on arty(I am asuming thats included in the 2500 total)?

-viking would love to since I will be playing germany above I will take someone besides them against whomeever you like. Setup whatever you think will be fun I am sure I will have a good time. If you want we can use a different thread or this same one :) dosn't matter to me !

All my email slots are of cource free :)

you can be germany again if you want, and here is the answer to your question

You plot the airdrop, then you canc it, then hit " t " now you put in what number you want the drop to happen on hope this helps

ArticFire, you are in for a beating by VikingNo2. :D I'll set something up, perhaps I will be the Russians since I have never played them in any game before (PBEM or against the AI).

You get 250 pts of arty out of your total of 2500 pts. It is an honor system. Mortars that are attached to a platoon do not count towards that limit.

To keep us in good weather, I'll make the date May 1940.

Send me a PM with your email address and I will have something to you in no time. But not as fast as VikingNo2, he operates at hyperspeed.

VikingNo2, I suggest you use one of your lower slots (3-7) that are open and I will use a slot >8. That way we won't pick the same slot and mess each other up.

Now I'm certain you've had a breakthrough or something major like that! You have to give me a chance to get home from work and get some face time with the girlfriend first. I can't wait to see what you've done to me now. Staying up 'til midnight is becoming a regular event since I started PBEMing you.

ArticFire, I hope you have a lot of time on your hands.:)

Oh btw- If the way I am thinking is correct op fire is going to be different then I am used to in single player. Am I correct in thinking that my troops will op fire if it's availible and within the range I have set for them?
