As Japan - anything i can do to increase number of squads produced?
Playing as Japan am beginning to get the basics of production but then i started looking at the device pool and wonder if there is anything i can do to increase number of squads and support squads produced that go into the pool to be used as replacements?
Also, does the number of Vehicles/Armaments produced affect the replacement pool - i.e. if i produce more does more go into the pool for use? Or does the pool just get bigger and stuff gets drawn out of it at a constant rate, or something else?
Thanks

Squads/devices get created out of armament points on demand so to speak. Only a few items like mines have a fixed production number and it cant be changed.

You can increase armament production to have more points available to rebuild units, but remember that doing so will cost more HI, and by the end game you will have enough armment points in the pool that is shouldn't be an issue. That is why I advise against raising the armament production much. The first few months it seems like you are scraping the bottom of the barrel though. [;)]

Thanks - i think you are saying that the more Armaments points i produce (thought at the expense of HI) the QUICKER i will replace losses in units.
So for example at the moment i have a pool of 112 Infantry squads but a need of 379 - so i could up my armaments production for a few turns to make up the difference quicker and units would be filled up quicker than if i did nothing.
Shark7 - are you really saying that the Japanese can keep all their LCU at full strength for all the game?
I'm on turn 34 and my Armaments pool is 30424 and Vehicle pool 2644 - is this OK?
And, what effect, if any, does manpower have on all this?

To an extent. You have a pool that will fill up, but the rate at which units actually replace equipment is dependant on several factors:
1. Armrments pool
2. Manpower pool
3. Available supply at the units location.
4. Amount of supply at surrounding bases.
5. Operational status of the unit (combat, rest, transit, etc). Rest is what you need to rebuild quicker.
6. Probably some other factors I am unaware of...
What I am saying is even if you don't increase your armament factories, you will eventually build up a pool. It is ok to increase them (a little more never hurts right?), but you don't need to feel forced to do so. That said, I have found that having 700-750 armaments factories is about right for me.
Also a trick...at game start, set all of your rear guard units (in the homeland, korea, manchuko, etc) to not except reinforcements until your actual fighting units are up to full strength. You can turn the rear guard units reinforcements on after you have built up your front line units. Its a little extra work, but it ensures units that will be doing the heaviest fighting will recieve replacements until your pool is sufficient to supply all your units.

Thanks for that, very helpful - had also forgot about setting to 'Rest' and didn't realise supply was a factor.

Ok here is a question. I like that you can rebuild units but have discovered from the Allied side that although you can buy back units sometimes you just will never have enough squads or critical devices to rebuilt them. This is especially true for Commonwealth units. What about my Japanese opponents? Is it easy for them to rebuild units or considering the shrinking perimeter and under strength reinforcements is it hard for them to rebuild units and better to just save devices and squads? I worry that I am killing Japanese divisions only to see them pop back up in the future.

Here is where the IJN Player has a distinct advantage, since we are not bound by production rates, but rather by the generic 'armaments' and 'manpower' we can pretty well rebuild any unit. I have no tried the puppet state units, but one would assume they fall under the same rule.

At the start of hostilities I find it easier to turn off all replacements globally and then turn on replacements to the most critical of units.

+1 - it's important to prioritize!ORIGINAL: SuluSea

but turning off all replacements except for one unit won't immediately dump all needed/available devices to it, they only dribble a few at a time, pert' much regardless of the lack of demand elsewhere.
RE: As Japan - anything i can do to increase number of squads produced?
I still do not get it.
Started Japan and did only three turns to see what happens.
Turned off ALL replacements.
After 3 days I see that ALL armament-points are put in the pool, allthough there were a couple of item produced.
(Some mines and 2 sounddetectors)
Question A.Are these items for free?
Question B.Is the proces of "what and howmany will be made" influenced by demand from the battlefield?
Question C.In AE you can stockpile. What is the effect and does it work? (nothing found in the manual)

I'm not sure about mines, but sound detector should cost tiny number of armament and manpower points. Mine production is not part of the production system, so maybe they are free.

I always do that, Allies or Japan and not just for LCU but air units as well. Takes a little time to go round turning on those you want to receive replacement but you do get them were they are needed.

The Thai units do not come back. Before the update I had a couple small units I was able to buy back, they showed up at Tokyo, but I couldn't change their command, so, I couldn't load them on lift to take them back or Thailand or anywhere else for that matter. No, after the update, you can't buy them back at all.

Actually, if you play Japan you don't want to Manchuko/Korean/Home island units take replacements at all, at least not before you have changed their command. Full strenght units cost more PPs to buy them out.
