Germans dissapear from a pocket

Post by Singleton Mosby »

Yesterday, in my full campaign played with the Soviets I surrounded roughly two dozen German (AI) divisions in Courland. It is august '44, three of them are rather strong but I have them fully surrounded but for a single small port which is 5 hexes to the rear of their frontline. A little to the south of this large pocket are two panzer and an infantry division, also surrounded, these completely.

After the Germans did their turn the three division to the south have apparently broken trough my cordon and joined the bigger pocket as their is a long line of German controlled territory. The pocket, however, is no more as all but two units have gone. How's this possible, where did these 25-30 units go?

They got out through the port. You have to lock down pockets against the AI 100%, otherwise it will use the smallest means available to make a clean getaway. It needs all the help it can get.

Even against a human player this wouldn't be an isolated pocket -- but they'd probably not be able to evac through the port (not enough MPs or shipping capacity.) So long as the port is held you can only rout them out of the pocket, however.

I agree the AI can use the help. But I hadn't expected them all to be gone. Well, not goin to replay the turn and capture the port instead. I'll just meet these troops again south of Koningsberg.
