Use small icons unit. What are the benefits from this?

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

There is a possibility to toggle between the full and small unit Icons.

I like this feature - because then the units will appear more clearly on the map.
Unfortunately, it also hides a lot of information.

What benefits have the designer with the function "show small icons" in mind?

Maybe to have a more clear "full picture" zooming all out; at least this is the use for me.

Sorry for my english.

I like to toggle to this occasionally to get a better view of the terrain and operational situation without filtering off the units. It also brings the units into scale with the map more, I think.

Precisely the reason why you use it..when zoomed out if gives a better picture of the footprint the unit takes up.

Very useful for spotting action when playing the new big scenario - Meuse to Rhine, for example.

A propos of that, I'm still playing away at this and it's taking a looong time. I'm starting to come round to Simovitch's view that it might be a bridge too far for processor capabilites (and I too have a decent system). It chuggs away and quite often it looks like the processor/engine can only handle one area of the battlefield at a time - many units static for long periods, whilst another part of the battle gets some intense action. It's not ideal, maybe, I'm thinking. Interesting, because I was all for it, and all for having a button that allowed you to enforce 1:1 real time. Now I see why this might not be so interestng. I've found myself having to use the 'run until' button in two hour chunks to see if anything happens.... Still enjoying it though.
