Events in multiplayer

Time of Fury spans the whole war in Europe and gives players the opportunity to control all types of units, ground, air and naval. Not only that, each player will be able to pick a single country or selection of countries and fight his way against either the AI or in multiplayer in hotseat or Play by E-Mail. This innovative multiplayer feature will give player the chance to fight bigger scenarios against many opponents, giving the game a strategic angle that has no equal in the market. The game uses Slitherine’s revolutionary PBEM++ server system.

Events in multiplayer

Post by vonpaul »

Do events happen in multiplayer? I can't recall ever seeing one and I'm up to Jan 40. Maybe i've just forgotten though.

Yes, they do.
However in multiplayer, to speed up the game process, those are maintain by the game.

Check your report menu every turn and you will see what happened.

is there a way to get more details? A single line of text isn't very helpful unless you have memorized all the events. I'm not sure I understand the logic in taking this out of the players hand.

gwgardner figured out how to do events actively in multi-player by using a hot-seat mode. But it is a hassle since you have to send the save file forward and backward every turn and on occasion need to ask your opponent what event choice he prefers. But if you feel strong about controlling your own destiny with events in multi-player, it is the way to go.

But having events moved to player turns instead of having them in the inter-turn phase would be an improvement for multi-player.

The problem with moving events into the player's turn is that some of the events are connected.
So in one turn we have got event for UK, which might trigger event for Germany and again for UK (example only)

Understand. But could an event not trigger the related event in the next German or UK turn instead of doing it right away? This could mean that you can have the related event in another country a week later. Those political decisions where not made instantaneously either at the time.

But I am sure you did think more about it than I have and maybe there are a few events where the delay would be awkward.

agree with Chocolino completely on player turn events, and how to do it.

In PBEM the events could be 'tripped' at the start rather than the end of the turn, each player could make a choice during their turn with execution at the end. This would require the removal of some dependencies, or simply taking into account the sequence of play in the event design. For example trip the Vichy event at the start of the turn following the conditions being met. Germans get first choice then French respond based on sequence of play. Effect is applied at the end of the turn. Not a mod type of change, but not a huge programming effort either.

the events go in a series, and NO reason to not have these pre sellected...
seriously this sis not part of the eb and flow forthe most part, and seriously detracts from the game..
not the biggist issue in multi but a close second

Damn, I was about ready to pull the trigger on this until I read this thread...

How can you guys mess up something as basic as this for MP? The event system just makes all the decisions for the players, and then doesn't even tell them what they are or mean?

Someone please tell me I've misunderstood this somehow...

Seriously, it's not as bad as some would say. It's a compromise, which I hope is changed in an upcoming patch.

I've played several games through with this current system, and it is simply another variation of play style. Events happening that are out of the player control. The player finds out in the reports. I've seen this in many games before.

Ideally however, I hope Wastelands does revamp and give us events per player, instead of inter-turn. That way the player can make the decisions in PBEM.

In the meantime, if you want full event control, play PBEM by hotseat, ie email a zip of the save game after each player turn.

Actually, I like PBEM by hotseat with my friend. It has the added bonus of adding or subtracting minors to your war effort as you see fit. For example, when Russia is attacked, add Rumania and Hungary to your side. Of course, your opponent has full power to see your forces so this is probably best done with somebody you normally game with face to face.

They do. Hit the R key for reports and scroll down to events.

It explains everything
