TRACOM pilot's stats are increasing

Post by jmalter »

this ain't exactly a complaint, but i find it odd...

USArmy pilot LT Gerhig, R. M. was at EXP81, MIS35, FAT12 & KILLS09 when he was xferred to TRACOM on turn 35.

(DBB_B GC vs IJ AI, scen 28, v# 1108r9)

now it's turn 111, & even though he's been in TRACOM all that time, he's up to EXP89, MIS43, FAT02 & KILLS20. his FAT has been rising/falling between 0 & 9.

i thought these guys would just alternate between helping queue-pilots graduate early and doing homefront warbond tours, & that their FAT would gradually go to zero. but it looks like LT Gerhig has been touring frontline units & participating in combat!

didn't Charles Lindbergh go out to SoPac & fly some missions in P-38s? don't think he scored any victories, though.

Do any of the combat reports show when he has been getting the kills?
Tracker might show them as well.
Of course he might be telling porkies at the pub and they are inflating his record!

i noticed his EXP increase in-game, as i xferred other pilots to tracom. 'cos i knew that the best pilot i'd put into tracom was only EXP84, that EXP89 rating stood out. so i looked up LT Gehrig in tracker, which is where i found he'd been moon-lighting around.

still, 11 add'l victories after only 8 more missions - 'porkies at the pub' is as good an explanation as any!

i found another pilot in tracker, who'd ramped up to EXP84 from 81 & 3 more victories, while in tracom. all the other tracom guys seem to behave as expected, once there, they just lose FAT. my game is at 27 March 42, & i've been glomming pilots into tracom at ev'ry opportunity. i've got 57 USArmy pilots in TRACOM now, from AVG over Rangoon & various sqn's defending Clark Field.

Any possibility it is related to FOW, and aircraft he previously engaged are now showing up as confirmed kills? Or does the game actually track the 'after-effects' of which aircraft he engaged, that may have been damaged and later written off? Strange.
Just when I get the hang of a game, I buy two more... :)

looked the guy up in tracker, & there's only one of him.

could be FOW-related - imo a pilot's kills = 'claims' of victories totalled from the combat animation, which are greater than the # of victories 'allowed' (i.e., the # of kills specified in the combat report that follows the animation.

IOW, if you total all your pilots' kills, you'll get a larger number than the A2A kill total shown in the Intelligence screen.

Justus2 suggests that the game tracks write-offs/ops-losses caused by A2A damage & assigns them to the pilot responsible, but that doesn't explain how this guys missions/fatigue is increasing while he's in TRACOM.

Yes, Lindbergh flew P-38's with the 49th I think but as a tech adviser. He was there to teach the P-38 pilots long range flying. How to adjust mixture controls and wring ever mile out of the 38. He did have some experience at long range flying. Also he got a couple of kills I think.
