Best way to kill patrol aircraft?

Is there a "best" way to kill them?
In the air? What CAP defense is best?
On the ground? What attack style? Strafing, port attack if from the air? Bombardment if from the sea?

Is there a good way to kill them or am I just out of lucking trying to kill the eyes of my opponent?

Major CAP can be effective at hindering search + ASW mission by patrol planes

I have always seen a steady attrition of Patrol planes, the scrolling report often shows "Emily shot down by CAP"

I usually have 50-60% CAP up over my CV which seems to do the trick.

You probably have to keep a similar CAP over your airfields.

Probably isnt a best way, if they are Seaplanes/Floatplanes it might not hurt to try a port attack and sink or scare away their Tender.

I have done it with LRCAP over an invasion hex to keep pesky Catalina's with torps away, even with Alf's, Pete's and Jake's. All you need is something to chase them away with.

the more Cap the better, lots of fighters will eat any patrols alive, not to speak about floatplanes

I set my Patrols to maximum range and more than 80% without a rest %.

I once shot a patrol plane down with land based AA, no kidding.

Best way to shoot down patrol aircraft? Send the request to buy them to your national legisature! The RAF, the Konsmarine,and several other services lost theirs completely! The USN only lost 3/4 of theirs (and had replacements stalled for 20 years). [:D][:(]

In all seriousness, taking out patrol craft is a multi faceted problem. To shoot down "snoopers" , have a very heavy CAP. To destroy them at their source, wiping out the airfield is not enough (as most are flying boats). I'd bomb the base systematically (air,port, then ground) , bombard , then LCAP the base. Generally it's just too much trouble to try and completely elimiate patrol aircraft unless you specifically NEED to blind an opponent as to what you are doing (and they only have one base to fly from).

You'd find it a more practical solution to just "thin the herd".

Low alt CAP as most of the time a good player will run them in on wavetop height.

On offense mission either port attack to kill potential AV or airfield attack to kill the planes.
I would decide on altitude of the strikes depending on potential AAA.
