LCU Replacement Pace

Post by hbrsvl »

Hi-Scen.15, v-r9, Allies, 5/11/43. Is there any rule of thumb as to how quickly LCUs are brought up to full strength after combat? The following table will show my concern at the slow, VERY slow, pace of unit rehab. Units shown are on Saipan. Good supply on island. I thought these units had a combat strength of about 14,000 men each.

Date Unit Total Infantry Total other troops Total all troops
4/27/43 1 Mar Div 2946 6103 9049
4/28/43 1 Mar Div 3029 6115 9144
5/11/43 1 Mar Div 3220 6456 9676

4/27/43 2 Mar Div 3557 7944 11501
4/28/43 2 Mar Div 3606 8009 11615
5/11/43 2Mar Div 3885 8568 12453

On each date for both units there was notation:Replacements delayed, with times of 1 to 3 days.

Is there anything in the manual that can clarify this? Comments, please.

Thanks, Hugh Browne

The best tool I have found is Witp Tracker. For example, Aussies replace at 55 squads per month, Indian 45, Brits about 10 .. but use WitP Tracker because other devices might be dependent as well ...

Also if you REST them they will pick up replacements faster.

repl sq/devices accrue to an LCU rather slowly, you need to be in a well-supplied base, & in rest mode, & have a good leader (iirc, his Admin value affects repl rate). & you need to be within the command radius of a Land HQ, whose ldr also has good Admin. not sure if you get a benefit from your target LCU being attached to that HQ.

even when you've got all this in play, repl items get added at a slow rate - say your MarDiv needs 25 squads, & you've got 35 in your pool - even if you turn off repl to all other MarDivs, it'll still take awhile, b/c the game won't dump all the available repl into that div at once. TIME is req'd to rebuild an LCU.

if your guys are in an HQ's command radius, you could try dividing it, the 3 Rgt-sized components might each pick up repl at the same rate as a Div, mebbe the repl will trickle in faster.

Nothing in manual apart from "The unit may receive more than 1 of each item needed, but must pass a series of checks to do this"
There is a basic 3 day wait between replacements. [It uses 3 and 7 as the delay in the code, but the lower number seems to take precedence. It could be that 7 is the 'in-field' delay and 3 for in base.]
This can be changed to almost daily (or every second day?) by Resting the unit in base with 20K+ supplies.

I'd be pretty happy with that rate of replacement at a forward base.

Also, don't know your pool status, but long ago I was advised that many base units have a pretty substantial USMC squad allocation by mid-war. I had never looked at their OOBs in that level of detail. Sometimes tunring them off helps force squads to the assault divisions a bit faster. Other than that all the other advice is the way to go--rest, supply, good leadership.

To: All who replied. Many thanks, wilco.

Re Tracker. I've never been able to make this work. Is there a really good post or something on it? Thanks, again, HB

The Tracker thread should be able to fix you up.
