Comparing Excel Worksheets

Post by treespider »

I can get myself around Excel in a rudimentary fashion...however can anyone tell me is there a simple way to compare two worksheets with similar data to see where the data is different between the two sheets and have those differences highlighted?

Had the same problem - there is no tool in Excel itself that I know of, but I have found this and it works like charm: http://www.synkronizer.com/ (free trial available)

I use Beyond Compare almost daily for file comparison. For best results, you might want to output both spreadsheets to CSV format. Comparison tools work best on plain text files, though they will tell you something if you compare the spreadsheets themselves.

I found an excel addin that compares...but doesn't highlight the cells...it simply generates a 3rd worksheet with row & column references and the different values...useful but it would be more so if it added a visual refernce in one of the sheets.

By the way I use the csv generated by witploadae.

I'll check out Beyond Compare...but am looking to do this on the cheap...[;)]

Microsoft Word has a built in compare function. If you have Excel you will probably have Office which includes Word. I used the function in Office 2003 but I'm sure other versions have the function buried somewhere in the menus.

Just export both the spreadsheets to .txt (or .csv) files and compare them in Word.
