Use of SC, DMS, PG?

Post by wga8888 »

This is my question from Uncommon Valor which will be my springboard into WITP-AE; I assume the same units exist in the latter. How are SC, DMS, PG effectively used? as part of a tranport TF or as there own? PTs are put into a surface TF per rules example. Can DMSs lay minefields or only sweep? Subchasers and or PG may limit speed of a transport mission.

DMS are sweepers, not minelayers, and very valuable. SC are small escort units, and in numbers can be effective, especially when convoys are running between bases.  As for PT's, most players have house rules that they can only  be in combat TF's by themselves, and some like to limit the number that can be at a single base.

It seems I can put 2-4 SC into a surface TF and have them patrol a hex where subs were identified. Patrol Gunboats are slower and guess they can be put in the same use. Have to figure out how to use DM and DMS in specifically different missions
