Koku Hombu Episode 2 ~ Let's make a B-17 destroyer

Post by Commander Stormwolf »

second part of my series for the upcoming scenario (yes it will be awesome [8D])

some ideas on what type of plane could have been made by the IJAF to counter the allied 4E menace

this idea is a variant of the Ki-46-III

-using the Ki-46-III original fuselage (not Kai)
- reduce fuel load massively to 400L in self-sealing tanks (down from 1800L in non-ssf tanks)
- add armored shell around pilot
- remove second crew member
- install 2x20mm in lower fuselage (some of those 800 imported MG 151/20)
- install 1x37mm Ho-204 (the big long-barreled one) through the nose

by my calculations:

wing loading is 153 kg/m2
top speed is 422 mph
loaded weight is 4884kg
range is really small [:)]

has to carry drop tanks on CAP
and CAP is all it can do.. (yes.. in this mod, range 4 means with drop tanks
(without them range = 2)([X(]) better check your petrol guage [:D]
...and it doesn't climb very well [:(]

fast and maneouverable, hard-hitting and durable - just don't expect it to scramble [8D]

any ideas?

for early in the war, here is a westland whirlwind style Nick,

major weight reduction (fuel), and more guns and a bit of speed
