Mine sweeping

Post by slane_slith »

If I set up a minesweeping TF and then set it to patrol between two (or three) bases will the TF function properly or does it have to be assigned to one hex/base to work? Will an AMc clear at Melbourne then move to King Island then to Flinders Island clearing mines in those hexes or have I just been wasting fuel?

Thanks

everytime a minesweeper is in a hex where mines are present it attempts to sweep mines, even if it just moves through the hex

And each surround hex..coastal sweepers only sweep the hex they are in however.
Life is tough. The sooner you realize that, the easier it will be.

All minesweepers will perform "some" minesweeping in any hex that they pass through. The majority of the sweeping is in the destination hex. A normal minesweeping TF will sweep the destination hex and all surrounding hexes (those that are water and with ops limits). Note that this is only at destination, they do NOT sweep adjacent hexes during transit. Local Minesweepers just sweep the destination hex.

wot's the deal, let's say i'm assembling an amph assault (multiple TFs of various types), they are assigned to 'remain on station' in a hex adjacent to the assault target. will an MSW TF (AM/DMS types, no AMc) sweep some mines from the adjacent defended base hex, or must it be assigned to sweep the defended hex?

What I've been doing is assigning all my mine sweeping task forces to patrol whether it’s one base or three bases and then turning them over to the computer. When I have them work multiple bases I have the task force remain at each port for a day. It seems to do the trick or the Japanese haven’t been laying many mines since I’ve only lost two ships so far.

Thanks again

I admit to being the “trainee” here but the way I understand what everyone is saying is:

As your amphib TF sails your minesweeper will work the hexes that the TF is passing through. When it reaches the final hex of the passage, whether it’s a base or at sea, it will start to sweep based on what type of sweepers you have, locals minesweepers will work only the hex that your TF is sitting in (base or ocean). Better minesweepers will start working on all the surrounding hexes, sweeping your invasion beaches.

I have no idea which ships sweep better than others. AMc’s are single hex sweepers and that AM’s are multiple hex sweepers. Other than that, you’re out of my pay grade!

1) Related Idea - do any other players NOT use regular minesweeping TFs out of fear of getting hit by coastal guns in adjacent hexes or out of fear of getting intercepted by enemy SCTFs?

I actually value the local minesweeping TFs more since they DON'T sweep the surrounding hexes - the player has more control and can pinpoint where exactly he wants to sweep mines.

2) If there are any further patches, is there any way an option could be provided for minesweeping TFs to limit their sweep to just the destination hex? This will allow the player to avoid the potential problems in #1.
