Even stupider newbie question

Post by sanderz »

Hi all

So i loaded up the tutorial and am trying to plan an attack. The tutorial notes says

Left click on the location to select it and place your cursor over the UN unit to the south in location 5,38. The mouse pointer now appears as target crosshairs. Right click and you will see a menu.

problem is i don't get the attack menu - the unit either just attacks or i get a "remove this objective" menu.

i assume i am missing something blindingly obvious here but can't figure out what it is :(

suggestions very welcome

Sanderz,

You have clicked on PO Assist button and are in PO Assist mode. That is the only way you can get the remove this objective menu. Keep in mind, also that the turorial was written a long time ago and is not wholly up to date with the recent changes in TOAW III. Actually, think it was originally written for ACOW and not TOAW III at all. The latest information is in the what's new document.

And there is no such thing as a stupid question - newbie or otherwise. Lots of people here to help new players.

Welcome aboard.

Best wishes,
Steve

thanks for the reply

was fiddling a lot so some of my attempts may have been in PO assist mode - but i restarted several times and never can get the right click menu with things like:
* single unit attack
* single group attack
* single unit limited attack
etc

Are you saying this menu no longer exists? (and that you just right click each unit in a stack to choose which ones attack?)

Why do sometimes they attack immediately and sometimes not?

Also, does the "Plan attack" screen still exist?

Can you briefly explain how you conduct an attack? (and what i am supposed to see).

Should i ditch this tutorial and if so any suggestions on how best to learn?

thanks again, much appreciated - and sorry for this rambling post

sanderz

PS - i was alwasy told "theres no such thing as a stupid question - only stupid people" [:D]

See the screenshot for the PO mode on/off button. If you have the shield and stars you're in 'normal mode'. No shield and stars - PO mode.

For the menu: With an own adjacent unit selected, right click on the enemy unit or stack and hold.

The plan attack screen still exists and is accessible from the right click menu.

On the Advanced Rules Page 2, you will see a line called "Menu Show Delay (1-100)". This is how long (in seconds) you have to hold down the right button to get the menu. If you set it to 1, the feature is turned off and you will no longer have to hold it down at all.

That page also allows you to turn off Tool Tips, if that's an issue. Set "Tool Tips Show (10-100000 msec)" to 100000. And set "Tool Tips Hide (1-100)" to 1.
