7.6.6 in the manual lets you know about Front changes.

North Caucasus MD (at start) to Caucasus Front (11/41) to Crimea Front (2/42) to North
Caucasus Front (1/43)
Transcaucasus MD (at start) to Transcaucasus Front (11/41)

So you'll get them freed right before your blizzard offensive.

It has nothing to do with Front activations. You will get Transcaucasus Front HQ, 44th Army HQ, a few divisions, and some air groups unfrozen before the first blizzard. The units are frozen and unfreeze after a certain number of turns. If you hold the cursor over the unit it will indicate when it unfreezes (Fzn 7 = frozen for 7 more turns). Most will unfreeze sometime in January 1942 IIRC. There will still be some units remaining in the mountains that will never unfreeze, unless Axis units make it that far.

They just wait around and keep the Turks from invading.

Thanks Schmart; that helps a lot
