Conversion Binds

Post by GaryChildress »

OK. How would I go about this?

I want to make a conversion series. I would like to make it so that I can convert a class of AVs into CVLs whenever I want. So for instance I might convert an AV in 1942 to a CVL or I might convert it in 1944. Now there would be different upgrades to the CVLs between 1942 and 1944 so that when I convert an AV I want it to convert to the most recent upgrade. Is there a special way to set up binds for that? In other words if I have a 1942, 1943 and 1944 verison of the CVL, how do I make it so that if I convert an AV in 1942 it will revert to the 1942 CVL or if I do the same in 1943 it will revert to the 1943 CVL?

Many thanks!

There is no way to do what you're asking directly. A class will always list all of its possible conversions, so the 2 solutions are;

1) Multiple conversions from 1 class
Meaning the original single AV class and all the CVL classes are put in one bind; the player will be able to select the newer ones as they become available, but the older ones will still be visible.

2) Synchronized AV/CVL conversions
Alternatively, create an equivalent number of AV classes to CVL classes, and pair them up in binds. So the 12/41 AV converts to 12/41 CVL, 6/43 AV to 6/43 CVL, and so on. For the AV, these can be 'real' upgrades (light AA, etc), or just 'fake' upgrades, that do nothing, require no time, and no shipyard, so will happen anywhere but at sea with no hassle. If the conversion time is long (say 6+ months), you might also consider offsetting the conversion and upgrade classes through an interrim class system (such as I do for the BB upgrades in AltWNT), but not sure its worth the effort.

Ah! thanks! I did option #2. Hopefully it works out OK. [:)]

I think conversion is not available, until defined time is reached (you can not convert Allied SS into SST when war begins), so you can probably bind every upgrade slot to the same class, and only conversion of given date (and earlier) will be available.

More or less how it works:

Since you want to have several classes that can be converted to a 'Generic CVE' class you would first make the CVE class and set it as 'Convert To' and give it a number, for example 3333.

Then you create any classes and class upgrades that you want to be able to convert to the Generic CVE and give those the 'Convert From' tag with the same bind number 3333.

If you want choices of what a class can upgrade too, you add them the same as the CVE with the convert to tag and the number 3333.
