Hex side transparency

Post by krupp_88mm »

I was annoyed that i couldn't tell where rivers were at or even tell if they were medium or small
rivers looking at the map. this was due somewhat to the front line hexside covering them up.
Additionally i thought the grey hexsides were somewhat distracting.

To address these issues a simple mod to just make these textures ~56% transparent.

Before mod.

After mod.

Download here, unzip with 7zip. Put graphics folder into your main game folder
(that has the graphics folder in it already) and overwrite the files.
Its advisable to backup your graphics folder by copying it and renaming it
backup graphics, just in case you want to go back to the old way. Or use JSGME
mod enabler.

http://www.mediafire.com/?3ps5nzxe58j399j (improved front line markers version)

If you just want the hex's shaded and not the front line markers shaded than
delete the "border folders" in each of the three system graphics folders.
But leave the hex raster there. BEFORE you overwrite your files, not after.

also this mod should be compatible with another graphics mods or game mods, as it only replaces the border files. Nothing else.

It might also be nice if Vic can at some point in the development process make shaded hexsides an option, rather than either on or off.

Nice. What file did you edit? I can incorporate that toning down in my mod as well.

If you download the mod i linked, you will see the files

http://www.mediafire.com/file/ij9cu7to3 ... raphics.7z

there is one for each zoom level for the hex's called hexraster. there are a host of other borders in the border folder i only edited the front line because that is usually blocking my view of rivers.. Although it would have been maybe better to keep the brighter yellow color and just make the border thinner.. this was easier to just add transparency.

krupp_88mm,

thank you for this mod. [:)]
That was really necessary.
The hex was previously far too intense.

Glad you guys like it, here is a quick update to it, it makes the front-line bright again but reduces the dots so you can still see the rivers under the front line

Update hex shade (improved front line markers) (now 7% thinner)

krupp_88mm,

is there a way you make these dots smaller/thinner. Well, not so bulky?

Smaller, thinner I'm not sure here.
Discreet.
What ever just looks better by effect.
But the brightness must remain. I've found that it brings benefits while playing if you can quickly find the front line.

Red frontline

Post by Templer_12 »

Any chance too change the frontline color to red?

Usually front lines on military maps are drawn in red.

I found this:

It can be done quite easily, but I will wait to see if Krupp wants to do this mod.

krupp_88mm,

that's the way! That looks good!
Your idea making the "zoom out" thicker was right!

Front lines should be red (my personal taste).
Thank you for that. [:)] No more rice grains on my map! [8D]

My map goes on looking more serious and more mature almost day by day.
