HQ overlays and supply

The development team behind the award-winning games Decisive Campaigns: From Warsaw To Paris and Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive year and theater of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue simulates the German drive to Stalingrad and into the Caucasus of the summer of 1942, as well as its May preludes (2nd Kharkov offensive, Operation Trappenjagd) and also the Soviet winter counter-offensive (Operation Uranus) that ended with the encirclement of 6th Army in Stalingrad and the destruction of the axis minor armies. With many improvements including the PBEM++ system, this is a release to watch for wargamers!

HQ overlays and supply

Post by FroBodine »

1. When I click on an HQ unit, what are the contentric colored hexes that emanate out from the HQ unit. It is a large green circle, followed by a yellow, then blue, and finally a red circle. What does this mean exactly? If it is supply, how do I read it? What do the colors mean? If it is command radius, how do I read that? If it's something else, then what, please?

2. When selecting an HQ unit, and then clicking the supply layer button, what does the AP numbers mean in the supply path? For example, I click on a unit, and it shows the supply path followed by 10AP/250AP. I figure the 10AP is how many AP it takes to get to that hex. But, what does the 250AP mean? It always seems to be some number of AP/250AP. And, what is the reason for using that AP? I guess I don't understand what the effect on the game is for expending AP to get supply to a hex.

I hope these questions make sense. Thanks!

I think the rainbow color thing has to do with the HQ power range but im not sure. The 250 is the max supply range for HQ's

Hi there,

Welcome to DC.

I will provide some firm answers here.

1. It is the HQ power range. If units under this HQ are in a 'green' hex they enjoy full combat bonus from their HQ. If they are not they receive only a percentage of the combat support of the HQ, if outside of range they will receive no bonus. As Bonusses are often above 60-80% you should really always keep your units in range.

2. Supply flows from OKH or Stavka to all subordinate units. By enabling the supply layer you can see how far the supply flow is reaching. Supply flows out from high command and can travel with supply movement type for maximum 250 action points. For example railroad costs 1 AP and a rough hex without roads can easily cost 30-40 AP. You use this layer to make sure all your troops are in supply or if you might have to pull back somewhere or rebuild a bridge or something to restore supply to your units.

Best,
Vic

Is there a way to turn HQ power off and on?

Stupid question, but I must ask it . . . does that preference turn off the HQ power functionality, or just the graphical overlay showing the range circles?

Hi Vic,

So how much does HQ Power degrade per "ring" of the HQ Power overlay? I'm guessing 20% per ring?

1) Grotius, not sure. You can check by putting a unit in one of the colored hexes then check UNIT DETAILS. It will give you the HQ Power.

2) Can we have a Supply Overlay that also works for the enemy? Some of us are not as smart as Keunert and Olivier. Is there a possibility that we could have an option where the Supply also works for the enemy. So instead of us having to 'do the math' on the enemy, we could just click and see the easy colors? This game is hard (but great) and any assistance using color tools would be great. If you think about it, we already know where OKH/Stavka is and they cannot move, so there is no FOW involved with enemy Supply calculations - just aggravating math involving counting hexes from railroads, etc.

Should be 25% per ring.
