PBEM Is Addictive!

Post by Icedawg »

For years now, I've only played against the AI, fearing that my lack of understanding of the game's underlying mechanics would prevent me from being a worthy opponent.

But, with a bit of trepidation, I embarked on a game a couple of weeks ago against Khyberbill.

Now, I feel like kicking myself in the pants for not trying this sooner! It is sooooooo much more fun to play against a human than against the AI!

I know many people have already said this on this forum, but for those of you who are uncertain about playing PBEM, I say, "Get off your butts and check out the Opponents Wanted subforum and jump in!". You'll be glad you did.

I haven't even opened an AI game since starting my first PBEM over a year ago.

Nothing like a good PBEM to eat up your time, thoughts and life.

Just because I spend part of my two hour round trip to see a child for work on how to divide up all my Japanese CVs in late 43 doesn't mean this game is addictive. Add in that I have three PBEM games, doesn't mean I'm addicted. I can cut back to just two anytime I want. [:D]

Sure...as long as I get to play the Allies. I need to even things up. 2 as Japan and 2 as Allies.

PBEM is good ~

as always I have some ideas for an extra multiplayer mode

add in a real-time multiplayer ~ 4 players per side, video-conference on strategy

1 day in the war = 1 day

then instead of just checking your mailbox every hour, you keep the game running 24/7

(as battle sequence windows pop up)

- 205 x A6M2
325 x B5N2

approaching TF, estimated time to target 15 minutes

15 minutes of agonizing sweat... just like the real admirals did

and during the lulls in the action, you squabble over troops/ac/ships with the 3 others on your team

I'm assuming this is all tongue-in-cheek. Otherwise, you'll need to find 8 playtesters who don't have lives. Or at least don't have wives!

keep PBEM there,
just add a real time multiplayer as an extra

also probably could set some time parameters..

like runs from 9am to 9pm at 2x speed (so you can sleep and eat in those 12 other hours)

..hehe would be pretty fun to play coral sea like that

(do i raid port moresby.. or do I keep the torpedoes on in case the usn pops up)

probably more similar to carrier strike than pacwar though

I enjoy the AI but PBEM is great.  Just, get a cup coffee and sat back and watch the show.  Each operation is important......if they work.[:D]

A cup or a pot? It can take me anywhere between 2 and 5 hours to set orders for a turn. That's the better part of a pot for me.
