about the 25th Japanese Army

Post by krafen73 »

I begun a camapingn as Japanese, after having tried some months as Allied.
I'm just on Turn 2 (Automatic 1st turn), and I have concerns about the 25th Army, that should invade the Malaya peninsula.
Trying to do things historically (at least in the begin), I searched about the Malaya Campaign. The 25th Army, involved in the campaign, should be composed by the 5th,56th,18th Infantry Divisions, Guard 2nd Division and some Tank battalions.

Now, I landed the 18th and 5th Divisions, but the 56th is in Japan, the 2nd Guard Division there is not in the game, there just is an "Imperial Guard Division" at Siemrem Reap, 120 miles north to the nearest port, Kompong Trach.

Ready to be loaded in the transports there are just some "Mixed Brigades", at Saigon.

Should I campaign into Malaya with these Mixed Brigades? Do you load more efficent troops from somewhere else?

I play with the v1806 (latest) patch.

Thank you very much, I really wish to enjoy this game.

I think 5 divisions for Malaya is perhaps a little bit too much especially if you managed to bomb Singapour to forbid any fortifications. Do forget to make preparations for Singapour.
I usually send Guard Division toward Burma with some Tank reg, AA and eng.
For my own jap campaign in Malaya (january 42), i have 5th, 18th, 4th, 2nd division, 2 Mixed brigade, 2 Tank reg, 2 eng reg and of some troups for logistics and planes.

Ok, thank you. I will use the 18th and 5th Divisions I yet landed, I'm lifting the three Tank Regiments from Taan (Hainan Island)and I begin to load the 2nd Division directly from Japan, it will take a while, but I hope to be able to unload it directly to Kuantan (maybe too much optimistic?). Two Mixed Brigades are coming from Saigon, The third one will be putted at Bandonu to threaten Victoria Point. I'm moving the Army at Siermem Reap, as you suggested, towards Bangkok, for furter movement on british Burma.

Waht do you mean with "For my own jap campaign in Malaya (january 42)"? A campaing that are you doing? A starting scenario maodfied by your own?

Maybe I will do an AAR about my game, I didn't read nowhere that games vs AI can't be AARed. Maybe I will get some advises in the run.

Yes, i have started a new big campaign as Japan some weeks ago (PBEM), we just arrived in january 42. So, it was easy for me to answer you as i am doing approximatively the same things at the same time. [:)]

Two games versus the AI:

In the first I really struggled to take Singapore after diverting too many troops elsewhere - Singapore held into July 1942 and acted as a potent Allied airbase.

In the second game I went after Singapore hard, and captured the base on 7th January using a force with 3000 assault value. Using this number of troops delayed my attack on Rabaul by about 2 weeks but let me land in India (mainland) on 21st January.

I also love this game, I found it few weeks ago. A friend of mine told me about it and he said : Play it and you will love it like you love games". I must to recognize that he had right!
