Axis Reserve Div - how do you use

The development team behind the award-winning games Decisive Campaigns: From Warsaw To Paris and Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive year and theater of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue simulates the German drive to Stalingrad and into the Caucasus of the summer of 1942, as well as its May preludes (2nd Kharkov offensive, Operation Trappenjagd) and also the Soviet winter counter-offensive (Operation Uranus) that ended with the encirclement of 6th Army in Stalingrad and the destruction of the axis minor armies. With many improvements including the PBEM++ system, this is a release to watch for wargamers!

Axis Reserve Div - how do you use

Post by abulbulian »

Just wondering what people normally are doing with the reserve inf div the Germans get starting the Case Blau campaign. Does attaching them to HQs have any negative impact? Wondering about how to tell inf current HQ corps and Army staff can handle the new units. Does the HQ still lose exp? Never liked that in AT before [&:]

If you select an HQ notice the Staff:Troops ratio at the bottom. If it's under 1.00 the HQ will be less effective.
Note that any rating above 1.00 doesn't have any effect - so an HQ with rating 1.10 is as effective as an HQ with 3.00 rating. With other words, if you can keep the S:T above 1.0 it doesn't matter how many troops are attached.

Ok thanks. When you assign a unit there's no penalties applied like in AT?

Occasionally, you can pay a political point penalty if you reassign a unit from a politically-powerful general. E.g., I think if I try to reassign someone under Paulus, I have to pay a 1 PP penalty. The game warns you before you make the transfer, though; you get a popup asking if you really want to do this.

I think that there is another penalty for reassigning units - at least I noticed this - for every single unit that your attaching to HQ, the HQ leader loses one command point. For instance, if you attach an infantry division (4 regiments) to new HQ, it general will lose 4 command point form his reserve. I don`t notice any penalty in readiness as in AT.
But I have played the game for relatively short time yet (brought it recently and don`t have much free time) so I may have been wrong.

The manual says 50% but I haven't changed any assignement so I'm not sure if it works this way or not.

p.26: changing HQ costs 25% readiness.
p.26: the HQ loses some comman points when it get's new units.
p.69: morale and combat modifiers only apply on corps level, not army level. army level HQ's only give staff xp modifiers.

In other words, assign those reserve divisions to corps HQ as soon as you know under which corps it shall serve. best to do after you played a corps hq card (command points spend)
and if there is no combat on the turn (readiness penalty).

fighting units will perform better under corps control!

you are correct. I think it is Strategic movement that cuts readiness 50%
