How the heck do you move land units?

Post by MarkMohrifield »

I am a complete newbie to this game and can't seem to get the land units to move. I've set their operations mode to "move" and selected the destination hex, but they just sit there. What am I missing?

Sounds like you're doing it right. Some of the reasons the unit you set to move might not have moved:

1) Depending upon terrain/hex/movment mode, the unit may be covering just a few miles a day. Each hex is 46 miles across, so if a unit is covering just, say, 8 miles, it will take eight days to move to the adjacent hex.

2) A unit can't cross impassable terrain. So, if you set a unit in Pearl Harbor to march to Midway, it's not going anywhere.

3) "Static" units won't move. Some units scattered about the map fit this category, including some garrison units in India and on the West Coast USA.

Have you tried running the turn?

If you do, you will notice that the unit will have moved a particular number of miles toward the destination you set in the prior turn.

These screenshots might help.

Each hex is 40 nautical miles across, which takes time to transit and since most army units walked, you can see the problem...time. And sore feet.

Yeah, that seems to have been the problem. Thanks everyone.
