Starting with DW...

Post by Pukako »

Hi there

Firstly, I've got to say I'm impressed with the depth of the game and am finding this forum invaluable in learning the tools needed to actually play the game, as the learning curve is deceptively steep - automation isn't always good...

I've also got to add that the Matrix Games forums are the most annoying I've come across, as I can't find the option to change my password from the temp one, and, no, thanks, but I'm not at all interested your other games. Just the one I own.

But onto DW. The ONE thing I am having issues with is the blasted 'ownership' of a huge expanse of space around a single colony. A neutral power, weak but friendly, has plonked a colony a huge distance from their worlds, right in the middle of where I have just thrown out my neighbour, and this one small colony is now controlling most of my mining and colonisation targets. Why do they now 'own' a system they can't patrol, can't protect, don't have any ships in and can't get to without going through me?

I'm annoyed as it stole a colony I've been trying to colonise for a long time, and their ship apparently arrived just before mine...

See, this here thing is called a territorial claim. In real life, we have territorial waters, a distance of sea, where a nation claims legal jurisdiction, including over all reesources under the seabed (oil, gold, fish, etc.) So make war at them, capture the dang planet and make peace again!

I think someone annoying you is an excellent reason to go to war. Or you can choose to let them mess with your plans freely.

To change your password, try to click "My Profile" at the top, and then the "Change Password" link at the top left behind the "Login" word.

Or just keep on.... .

That is one of the great things this game brings. It forces you to invest in mines, bases and expansion plans that can at an instant be taken away. Now like the others have said you have a reason to build a military and spy profusely to win back what you believe was stolen. Relations are going to sour if you have any mines in the area or military so you better prepare....

When starting the game you can put a limit on colonization range to prevent Empires building a colony miles away from their Empire. I always enable this option and set it to the recommended distance.

Thanks all - I found out that it's the annoying rodents from a far corner rather than my potential allies stealing my precious worlds, so I can deal to them with only a rapidly sinking reputation to show for it.

The 30 minutes after I posted that was insane but fun! Pirates sold me the location of ruins that gave me the location of a capital ship that was very close to the pirates home base so I killed them with it :) . I captured a far flung world of some nasty bugs, then they attacked back - my fleet managed to chase them off, but they killed all their people on the captured world in doing so, but I'm okay with that. Then they threatened us and sent us $12k at the same time.
