That was what I was going to pick. I have a 1/144 H8K2 die-cast at my desk.
This is one Czech that doesn't bounce.

I could also go with the P1Y Ginga 'Fances'. American, that would have to be the Hellcat or the B-24.

Bearcat. Just about the Nth development of the prop fighter which showed how ready naval air was for jets. I got to crawl all over one when I was a kid (Armed Froces Day air show) and Ill never forget how it pulsed with sheer power and musculature. Truly a beast.

Ilyushin-2 Sturmovik. Too bad you have to wait until the Soviet Union enters the war to play with 'em. [8D]

Wow that is a tough question. Since you said favorite I base that off of looks. So the Emily and Sunderland are my favorites along with the A20, F4U, B-25 and B-24.

The B-25 is my favorite, in all of her variants. A modern medium bomber the the allies get early war. And then the skip bombing........ :D

The A-20 and B-25 "gunships". Too bad the game does such a poor job of modeling their use. Between the massed forward-firing .50 cals. and the skip-bombing technique they pretty well spelled the end of all Japanese naval activity within their range.

Ki-44 and F8F are my favourite radial fighters probably, designed for rock climbing

large engine and tiny wings.. like a plane from a cartoon , some nice footage of F8F at airshows.. it keeps going up and up and up .. 5,000 ft/min

For performance, the A-26 Invader.. That thing ended up being able to carry 2x the specified ordinance and fought all the way through the Vietnam war.
