Is it possible to get access to a savegame after an opponent disappears?

Post by Saros »

So the title really says it all. I have a Scen 1 game where my allied opponent has vanished in sept '42. I haven't heard from him for several months real time.
No reason as far as I can tell (its not a case of carrier loss syndrome that's for sure.) He just stopped replying one day.

He never gave me his password so I can't go looking for a sub, is there some way to get access to a savegame so I can pass it along to a new opponent if I can find one?

I really don't think so.... I've not heard of doing it.... I know there has been discussion of having third parties hold passwords so as to avoid this sort of thing... but that too has never gone anywhere. We've had folks pass away during game play which has left things in the air... tragically speaking...

It is possible for michaelm to recover a password, but he doesn't very often because an unethical player could ask for his opponent's password to cheat. Someone got kicked off the forums a year or two back for doing just that with a game that was still active (claiming the opponent was MIA) and their opponent found out. None of us like to distrust others, but we tend to err on the side of caution.

Ah well if it helps we both were maintaining AAR's of the game on the forums and my opponent hasn't posted anywhere on the forums since he disappeared. I would also be happy to have a reputable third party receive the 'opened' save game from Michaelm so I never got to see it.

Thanks for the help I guess ill send Michaelm a PM and see what he says, it would be a real bummer to lose this game as things were just getting interesting after a year of the most cautious allied play ever.
