DBB C screen problem
I'm trying to start a PBEM game with DaBigBabes C but the stacking limits are displayed under the two buttons to the left of the "X" Quit button in the upper right hand corner, and I cannot read what they are, except when the selected hex is in the northwest area of the map. I have a relatively small monitor. Is there any easy fix short of getting a bigger monitor? Like get rid of those two useless buttons?
Thanks for your help.

RE: DBB C screen problem
Geoff - a screen shot please and a bigger monitor wouldn't help as this is a fixed aspect iirc.ORIGINAL: geofflambert

RE: DBB C screen problem
I'll probably go get one today. I guess this would be a problem on most laptops?

RE: DBB C screen problem
here it is
Somebody else must have had this happen to them before.
I tried lowering the screen resolution, it had no effect.

RE: DBB C screen problem
The pic you just posted is about 14 inches, not 23.

RE: DBB C screen problem
Sorry, I don't know what you mean. The monitor is definitely 23" and at full screen.[&:]
Is this because of the settings on my screenshot program. It's Wisdomsoft. Regardless, it is an otherwise accurate rendering.
I see, the rendering looks like a square, but my actual screen is 4:3. I'll have to look at those settings.
Scratch that, you made me get my tape measure out, my actual screen is 20" x 11 1/3", and a 23" diagonal. The screen shots are rendered as 4:3.

I suspect it's your settings. I play in windowed mode, on a 24" monitor, with AE taking up the entire width and almost all of the vertical (leaving the windows menu bar available at the bottom). Here is a screen pic. Look different?ORIGINAL: geofflambert

PS: I just started up scenario 1, which has no optional stacking limits but you get the idea.

RE: DBB C screen problem
That looks just like my screen, except I don't have the windows bar on the bottom. The font size on your top bar is way way smaller than on mine, as you can see. Must be a way to adjust that. Thanks for trying to help.
You can see the star on the bottom of my screen is located behind the strategic map. I sure don't want to have to re-install this puppy if I did something wrong on the original install.

Here's a pic of my screen if anyone doesn't think it's that wide.

RE: DBB C screen problem
From reading this and looking at your pic in the following post, there are big differences between the pictures that you and I posted. It's not the raw size in inches, it's the resolution. You may have a 23" diagonal screen, but you are running the game at a low resolution.ORIGINAL: geofflambert

You should post the settings form the shortcut that you are using. Also, right-click on your desktop and check the screen resolution that you are using for Windows. Perhaps you have the game settings correct but the underlying Windows is at a lower resolution.

Your screenshot is 1024 pixels wide by 768 pixels tall which is the default game resolution. You have just stretched it to fill your monitor (notice how the hexes are wider than they are tall on the monitor which is not reflected in the screenshot). Your monitor looks like it should be capable of displaying 1920x1080 resolutions.
With your monitor, why don't you try the widescreen option, you'll never look back!! The picture below shows the difference between a standard screen and full widescreen.
Create a new icon on your desktop and put the following line in the "Target:" box (ensure the .exe file is the same location as on your PC).
Code: Select all
"C:\Program Files\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -px1920 -py1080Double click on the new icon to start (or continue) a game in widescreen mode and that's all there is to it!!
Best of luck,

This is only a consideration if you are running in windowed mode. Full screen mode changes the display resolution to the game resolution.

True. Sometimes people use the terminology wrong, and since he didn't post the options on the shortcut I was trying to cover all the bases for him.ORIGINAL: Reg

Yes, I had an -fd option on there. I'd forgotten putting that on there. It was a long time ago.
