How to install the August Pacth

It is easy if you follow these steps carefully:

1) Download:
- the core update (op_star_game_update_v581_eng.exe)

and

- the game patch (k43t_apos_patch_aug12_eng.gt2extension)
http://www.graviteam.com/AP-STAR/k43t_a ... 2extension

2) Double click on the core update (op_star_game_update_v581_eng.exe) to start installing it.

3) VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure that the destination folder is pointing to the actual folder where you have installed the game. The default destination folder is most of the times wrong !!

4) When the core update has been installed a window named "Game updater" will pop up. You have to use that window to install the game pacth (k43t_apos_patch_aug12_eng.gt2extension).

5) Click on the "Install" button and select the game patch file (k43t_apos_patch_aug12_eng.gt2extension)

6) A clock will appear while the game pacth is being installed. Wait until the installation is finished

7) Now that you are back to the "Game updater" window, click on the "Save and Play" button.

8 ) You go back to the Achtung Panzer game with the core update and game patch properly installed. The main menu in the game should say "Version 5.81 (1980), Update Aug 12".

That's all !!

Just one additional thing:

I have been testing with "Internet Explorer" and I have noticed that when I download the game patch file from:

http://www.graviteam.com/AP-STAR/k43t_a ... 2extension

using "Internet Explorer" the extension of the file is automatically changed to ".zip" and I get the file: k43t_apos_patch_aug12_eng.zip

If you are experiencing this problem then just change the extension of the game patch file to ".gt2extension" in such a way that its name is:
k43t_apos_patch_aug12_eng.gt2extension

i followed instructions and mine looks like this. You see i have 1980 in the upper right not 1939, is this going to be an issue.

I just downloaded and installed the latest engine update that Andrey posted today on the Graviteam forum site and my game went from 1939 to 1980 like what yours is showing.So it looks like the 1980 version is the new improved 5.81 engine update.

I downloaded the GG one first and then went with the one from the graviteam site when the numbers didn't match, but they turned out the same. So far the little i've played i've run into no problems yet[fingers crossed]. Will get back to this title after scrouge of war. Thx for clearing that up.

czar1111's guide to installing, patching and adding DLC to
ACHTUNG PANZER: OPERATION STAR as available on Gamer's Gate November 2012
under the WINDOWS 7 operating system.

*Note: this is what worked for me after several failed attempts. There may be other ways to do this?

It is VERY IMPORTANT to read these instructions carefully before you start.

Firstly, Achtung Panzer: Operation Star SHOULD NOT be installed in the default folder that the Gamers Gate Installer attempts to install it in!
If you have already installed the game and it is in either C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) then this is WRONG and PATCHES WILL NOT WORK. I don't know why.
If the game has installed here you need to completely uninstall it.
Use the Uninstaller in the Start Menu then go to the Control Panel > Programs and Features and use the Uninstall option there. Then just for good measure – go to the C:\ drive yourself and make sure all the folders are deleted.
This simply eliminates any further confusion about which folder the game is installed in.

Installing
1/ When the Gamers Gate installer begins and prompts you for the folder to install the game in DO NOT ALLOW THE GAME TO INSTALL IN THE DEFAULT FOLDER!
If you allow the game to install itself it will install in “C:\Program Files (x86)” and for some reason this does not work properly. The game will run unpatched – but then you will not be able to patch it.
My suggestion is to put it in a new folder like C:\Graviteam\Achtung Panzer Operation Star
Then Install.

When you start the game and get to the main menu look to the top right of the screen and you should see the version installed “version 5.75 (1379)”


2/ Next step is to download BUT NOT RUN!!! the two patch files you need.
You need both files to patch successfully and they need to have the correct file extensions for this to work.
Download the files
k43t_apos_patch_aug12_eng
op_star_game_update_v581_eng
from Gamers Gate

3/ Now you need to change the file extension on “k43t_apos_patch_aug12_eng” to “k43t_apos_patch_aug12_eng.gt2extension”
In Windows 7 put this file in a folder and then “ORGANIZE” this folder's contents.
Select “Folder and Search options”
Select the “view” tab
UNCHECK “hide extensions for known file types”
APPLY
OK

Now you can see the file is “k43t_apos_patch_aug12_eng.zip” and you can rename it to
“k43t_apos_patch_aug12_eng.gt2extension” and remember where the file is or drop it on the Desktop (you will need it soon)

4/ Updating.
Double Click (or whatever you do) run the “op_star_game_update_v581_eng.exe” file.
It will run and ask where to install? (Destination Folder)
Put it where you installed the game.
“C:\Graviteam\Achtung Panzer Operation Star” in my case (from step 1)
It will run and then the Installer window will pop up.
Now you need to Click on “Install” and find the file “k43t_apos_patch_aug12_eng.gt2extension”
REMEMBER to change the file type next to the “File name” window to “Addons (packed)*.gt2extension” or you wont be able to find the file!

A clock will appear while it is being installed then you will end up back at the installer window...
Click “Save and Play”

When you get to the main menu look to the top right of the screen and you should see the version installed “version 5.81 (1980) Update: aug.12”
If you mouse over this text it should highlight and if you click on it you will get the installer window pop up – it should show:
“Game update version 3.09”

Well done if you got that far! Achievement Unlocked! “Master Updater!”



5/ Installing the Map Update
NOTE THIS FILE IS OPTIONAL (but if you got this far... why the hell not?)
Download the file “k43t_apos_upd_dist_taran_rakit_may12_eng.exe” from Gamers Gate.
Create a folder on the desktop so you will know where to find things!
This is a self extracting exe file – just to keep everyone on their toes!
Double Click on the file to extract it to the folder you just created.

Start the game and at the main menu DO NOT SELECT THE UPDATE OPTION
(apparently this causes problems...???)
Look to the top right of the screen and you should see the version installed “version 5.81 (1980) Update: aug.12”
If you mouse over this text it should highlight and if you click on it you will get the installer window pop up – it should show:
“Game update version 3.09”

Now you need to Click on “Install” and find the folder you just unzipped everything to and find the folder called “CORE”
REMEMBER to change the file type next to the “File name” window to “Addons*.addpack” or you wont be able to find the file!
Find the file “desc.addpack” and open that.
It will install.

When finished you will get back to the installer window which will now show:
“Game update version 3.09”
“District update version 1.03”
Save and Play.

Really well done! Achievements Unlocked! “Pitfall Avoider!” and “Graviteam beater-er!”


6/ Installing DLC
If you got this far – you probably can do the rest yourself. But, just in case:
Create new folders for each update where you can find them (on the desktop)
Download the update and unzip the files to the new folders.

Look to the top right of the screen and you should see the version installed “version 5.81 (1980) Update: aug.12”
If you mouse over this text it should highlight and if you click on it you will get the installer window pop up – it should show:
“Game update version 3.09”

Now you need to Click on “Install” and find the folder you just unzipped everything to and find the folder called “CORE”
REMEMBER to change the file type next to the “File name” window to “Addons*.addpack” or you wont be able to find the file!
Find the file “desc.addpack” and open that.
It will install then click Save and Play.

As at 9th Nov 2012 the updates are
Engine: 5.81 version(1980)
Game update: 3.09 version
District update: 1.03 version
Addon Sokolovo 1943: 1.07 version
Addon Blau 1942: 1.09 version
Addon Krasnaya Polyana 1943: 1.01 version

I have my game installed ^ here without incident[fingers and toes crossed, while knocking on wood]. It just ended up there during the 001 error and patching reinstall hell of the past.[:'(]

Thanks Dane49 for posting "How to update." Very much appreciated.

I've patched the Matrix version to 581 with no problem. You just have to point the patch installer to the right directory.

Thanks Txema, Dane49, & czar1111 for the tips adding the new update and patch. Just when I had mastered the old system, they changed it again!

Incidentally, I added the newest district update dated August 2012, but it still reads version 1.03, the same as the May district update, so I assume the only difference is the way the August district update is added.

Yes the new August district update didn't change the version.

1.03 is current for August update.

I suppose the changes weren't major enough to warrant a version change.I don't recall exactly what changed but I think Andrey mentioned that there were some minor bug fixes with pathing and some RR links were missing that were added plus a few other discrepencies were adressed.He also mentioned something about a new weather addition but I haven't noticed any difference,lighting looks a little different during the evening but I rarely do evening battles so I can't really judge exactly what the difference may be.
