Help required!!!

Post by Noodleboy »

Have just tried to update from v.4.0 (i HAVE been away for a long time!) to ver7.1. using the patch

The install cacked up somehow as whenever i try to launch SPWAW it states that it cannot find

vid998.SMK

When i looked at the Stream directory, it shows vid998.SMK as being there but when i try and click on 'Properties', the program terminates.

Any similar experiences? Any ideas?

Cheers

Ouch....

Now if my poor memory serves me right there was some problems with this file early on...I think a wrong version was included in some game packet or something.
The obvious solution would be to d/l just that file (60 megs) but I dunno if it's available anywhere as separate d/l.
If your connection allows it you could as well get the latest complete game, remove the old version and install then the new version.

There isn't anyplace that hosts that d/l individually anymore. Did I read it correctly that you tried to update directly from 4.0 to 7.1 using the 7.1 upgrade??? That is were your problem is, there is about 4 patches in between that you would have needed to be applied first. Because of the amount of downloading and sizes it is recomended you just download the full 7.1 version.:D

One thing I can't stand: vid998.smk is necessary for SPWAW to work. This is completely stupid considering that it is the intro, and it consumes some 60MB IIRC. Even when running mech.exe, which doesn't show the intro, there'll be an error if the file is not there, and if another file is put there instead there'll also be an error.

I'm sorry about this useless rant...

Not useless rant at all, a spot on bitch!!! Seems really stupid to still have it, but I think it was a legal stipulation, for Matrix to have to include it, IIRC.

Noodleboy,

Send me a private message with your address and I'll mail you a full copy of Ver. 7.1 - without the Mega-campaigns of course.
