The Map

The development team behind the award-winning games Decisive Campaigns: From Warsaw To Paris and Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive year and theater of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue simulates the German drive to Stalingrad and into the Caucasus of the summer of 1942, as well as its May preludes (2nd Kharkov offensive, Operation Trappenjagd) and also the Soviet winter counter-offensive (Operation Uranus) that ended with the encirclement of 6th Army in Stalingrad and the destruction of the axis minor armies. With many improvements including the PBEM++ system, this is a release to watch for wargamers!

The Map

For future upgrades, please highlight the rivers in darker shaes of blue. The old "Pz Cmd" series maps by John Tiller were excellent at showing the various types (or sizes) of rivers by using varying shades of very visible blue colors.

I wouldn't go that far....one of the main reasons I use MapMod for panzer campaigns is because I had trouble differentiating between streams and rivers.

In Caseblue there are many things that annoy me about the map, but I do understand that what one person finds nice, another person may find yucky. So I borrowed from other peoples mods the things that I like, and changed the things that I want.

One of the things I changed was the rivers. I made the streams thin lines, and added 'banks' to the Volga and Major Rivers.

You can see what I did in the Trippin the Trappen AAR such as this:

tm.asp?m=3189307

In the mods forum I will upload a zip of my rivers.

+1

Particularly when a river runs through a city, it can be quite hard to see sometimes.

Perhaps CB could just switch to the river graphics used in WtP--- for whatever reason, perhaps a slightly darker color, the rivers in the first game just jump out a lot more.

For that matter, I like the field graphics in WtP as well. Perhaps they could be added as well in spots just to give the CB map a touch more variety.
