now that terrain effects are working right ...

looking at Barbarossa, I find that my Germans are lagging behind historical advances. Ive played up through the July 9 turn, and Army Group Center has yet to complete an encirclement around Minsk. It's looking like the battle for Smolensk is going to be way behind schedule.

Are those tiles on the map the original or modifications? I haven't played that part of the game.

Not sure what you are referring to. If referring ot the colors, look at the little buttons at the bottom of the mini-map, they let you alter the map modes to see different things. In this screenshot, I have the mapmode showing territory by ownership.

gwgardener,
Almost every game that models Barbarossa as part of the larger European theater have trouble modeling that German blitz of the first few weeks. I think you're obesessing too much about those first few turns and not looking at the long term where the Germans can match the historical advance fairly well. It could be that German units just don't have enough AP yet, a good reason for trying to upgrade their armor to level 3 ASAP. Of course that takes a turn.

Look at the long term where it's rather simple for the Germans to run up to Moscow much faster than historically was done, especially the rail repair which is way too quick. The German player has a big advantage the way rail supply works over history. When starting from 1939 the German player can't come close to level 3 panzers the way they're modeled in the 1941 scenario start, a shame that the scemnario designer didn't think through how research levels should be set for beginning scenarios so that a player could reach the same levels as seen in later scenario starts.
