Game quality

Post by DavidFaust »

I purchased this game on the day it was released but it got little use as I felt it missed the mark.

My question, is the game playable or worth playing in PBEM mode or should it continue to sit in my shelf?

Installed the game and patch today.

After hitting play and hitting yes, the game crashed and burned.

I take it with the lack of responses on here and my install experience that this game is best left on my shelf?

I would recommend a clean install and then update with the latest comprehensive patch v1.08.07. It is quite stable and should not be crashing.

There have been considerable improvements in the game since initial release. Granted, there is still some work to be done to resolve a few issues but AFAIK there are still games in progress being played via PBEM (see Generals HQ). You should touch base with them.

Again, try a clean install/patch, check out the updated user manual, and give the game another go. Enjoy!

The install I did was a clean install with the latest patch.

I took your advice and reinstalled the game and the latest patch but I encountered the exact same problem.

Game crashes before I even get to see the game.

The problem in detail

1,I double click the EIA icon on my desktop
2,A EIA menu screen pops up and I click on play
3,A user account menu pops up asking my to allow permission for earmsrez.exe, I click yes
4,I get a message box spamming my computer.
5,Top left corner has Eianw
6,Inside the message box has the text, Division by zero

On step 3 when I click No
I get a message saying
There is a error with your serial number
Error code -1

This game is really fun. Well worth it, in my opinion. There's nothing else like it. Play it. It's great.

kingtiger, I suggest trying two things. First completely uninstall EiA, reboot, and then do a clean install of the game and v1.08.07 patch. Second, reboot again to ensure fonts are reset and verify your display settings. From the readme notes:
Upgrading can cause intermittent font issues. This may look like you are missing text/buttons. To remedy this please REBOOT after loading a patch!

Wide screen monitors with their DPI set to something other than 96DPI can cause viewing issues making the game unplayable. Please set your CRT DPI to 96.

There may be some issues with Microsoft Vista (Screen sizing errors, game not running, etc) and if you do see any difficulties then try the following:
1. Right click on the EiANW.exe file
2. Click properties
3. Click the compatibility tab
4. Check off the compatibility mode and then switch to something other than Vista.

Others have had some difficulty with the install but overall most players have been able to install and run the game without issues. Other than the known game issues, which hopefully someday Marshall will get around to fixing. Good luck!

Hey Kingtiger
You have been missing out on a lot of fun, we have been going for years with these versions. I agree it still needs work, but we have about 40 players here thats go for it every week.

I realize this is old BUT:

Have you tried to run the app "As Administrator"?
Thank you

The division by zero error seems to be pretty consistent (though it shouldn't be) and you shouldn't have to "reboot" 2 or more times to get a GAME to run. Honestly.
