Can it be this way?

Post by Samurai »

I play mostly Jap side in the game. But whenever I enter the main menu the computer is set, by default, to play Jap. And, so entering the game and forgeting to switch sides with the computer, when I load my game I play Allies. And, naturaly, I get to se, wheter I like it or not, the Allied positions, mostly ships and subs. I do get out of the game as quicly as possible, but... No flavour asit used to be... So, what I'm asking is: can you Matrix and 2by3 guys in one of the next patches include option taht would allow us to set the default main screen, or even better, that would load the saved game just the way it is played (I mean to load the side i started to play the scenario) or not to allow players to load the game different than the side they are playing (started) scenario.

I hope that this thread is understandable. I would be gratefull if you could do something like this in the next patch, so we would not have to watch so closely on the main screen, but enter the game as quickly as possible. :)

Thanx!

I find this a little irritating as well. I have several games going on at once and some I play as the Allies and some as the Japanese. It would be nice if I didn't have to remember to reset the switches before I load a saved game.
If something's not working you might want to tunk it a dite.

This isn't currently a planned change, since we wanted it to be possible to set up certain situations or positions in head to head, then switch to playing against the AI or having the AI play itself to see how things turn out. Just try to remind yourself to check the player settings before you load the game. :)

Game Standard

Post by EricLarsen »

The main screen setup is the same as every other wargame in that the player has choices to make to setup playing his game. I think a little forethought before entering the game shouldn't be such a big deal considering all the thinking one has to do inside the game.

Possible improvement?

Post by BPRE »

Could a possible improvement be that none of the options is set by default and that you are forced to set one before loading a save/starting a new scenario.

Please consider that for WitP at least.

I was talking about saved games. I take it that when you save a game it also saves the preferences you chose for that particular set up. For instance, IJN sub doctrine on or off, FOW on or off etc.

I wouldn't think having the saved game remember which side you were playing would be that difficult.

No big thing. A very minor irritation really considering what a good game it is. Having the option to play or replay battles the way Erik describes just isn't something that interests me is all. To each his own.
