I finally got into this game.

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

It was definitely my best spent money on wargame, ever. This game is simply beautiful, if there's any game that could be called "Art", it's definitely Command Ops.

My wife would not understand it, but would not disapprove either [;)]

But seriously, compared to the evil, violent trash sold at the major sites, we are quite sane and respectful of history.

Well, thinking in these categories, I would call wargames an epitome of violence and evil in gaming, except that I wouldn't use the word "trash".
The battle that I'm now playing is basically a massive battle of attrition with 3 corps on my side which during the course of the battle are going to be reinforced with 10 divisions. The same with the opposite side.
So by the end, there will be about 180,000 soldiers involved on each side and quite probably most of them will become casualties.

It's violence and evil on scale that is almost unimaginable. If common games are like gladiatorial combat, our games are like taking the whole thing to a next level and starting massive nation-destroying wars just for sport.

I was thinking more along the lines of Postal II, Dead Island, and all that junk. Blood spurting from innocent victims. Real war is horrible, but I play these as an intellectual exercise. I would guess that combat veterans might have a hard time playing a realistic game like the CMx2 series. And, I did download your AB mod [:)]

Similar scenario - this time with companies as main units.

My forces is one line corps and one assault corps, enemy forces is one line corps.

Command Ops is probably the only game where it's possible to have multiple corps which are represented on map down to single companies.

How many units have you got in total for all sides?
How big is the map?
What was the performance like - eg how long did it take to go through an hour of game time?

500 on my side and for now about 400 on enemy side (200 are reinforcements, though and aren't on map yet).
The map is 10x16km.
About 30-60 seconds per minute. I have an ancient computer, though - with a Celeron 2,4Mhz single core CPU and 1GB of ram. I'm not sure if it wasn't faster before. I tend to have high CPU use problems with Firefox, so it may be slowing the game down.
EDIT
With a free CPU it's 10 seconds per minute.

OK so a small map and pretty slow. My benchmark is 1 hour of game time per 1 minute of real time.
